The Battenberg - Mountbattens

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Well done Ivar - I can imagine that would have been an incredibly difficult thing to do. I think it's lovely that he is still friends with this ex wife. I remember the article announcing their divorce and I was really surprised but now if course it makes sense.

I'm glad he felt he could "come out" and he has been accepted by his friends. I knew he was close to Edward and Sophie as their children are all one another godchildren, so it's nice to know they accept his decision.

The Mountbattens have certainly been an extraordinary family. Various members have had a huge impact on British national life.

I missed this it seems but great read.

Ivar and James both seem very down to earth great men. I smile reading how they talk about their relationship. You get a good picture. I am happy Ivar has come out and found happiness. And that people like Edward and Sophie are fully supportive. It seems so is his brother George, from the story of George flying in to take the couple out to lunch. Do wonder how Philip may take it or the other older Mountbattens.

Nice to know Penny has been supportive. That she has become friends with James and they do holidays and such. Makes it easier for the kids.

But more important, his three daughters have been accepting and welcoming of James. Those are the only three ladies whose opinions really matter.

Just started reading the book "The fabulous Mountbattens" (subtitle: The uncensored, three-decker story of Great Britain's most important family) by Alden Hatch, published in 1965 (found it at a second-hand book sale). Anyone familiar with the book and its historical accuracy? The title of course suggests a rather positive take on the lives of Prince Louis of Battenberg, Lord Louis Mountbatten, and the Duke of Edinburgh, but other than that I would welcome any outside opinions.

I would imagine that the term "Britain's most important family" is in reference to the Mountbatten involvement with the British Royal Family as the most important family and the Mountbatten influence on it. :D

Seasons Greetings from Lord Mountbatten

Hello everyone,

I've just inherited this Christmas card from Lord Mountbatten when he was the last Viceroy of India.

I'm not interested in selling but was wondering if anyone knew what kind of value/interest an item like this would have. I'm aware that he was only in India for a short time so was wondering if things like this are quite rare?

Thanks in advance for any comments/advice

It was enjoyable to see India Hicks help Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones with Diana's 25 foot long train at the 1981 Royal Wedding.

Yes, he certainly is, and the 'close female friend' is also one, as I've read she was godmother to the couple's little son Caspian.

Kata is hurting right now but he did a favor (albeit a brutal one). Who wants to be married to someone who lacks enough moral character to NOT cheat with an alleged friend, leave for such friend and that make light of it while you are pregnant. Not a nice person IMO.

And I agree with the sentiments...not a real friend or a real husband to be honest.

There’s an English language autobiography about Queen Louise of Sweden that pops up now and again on Amazon. It’s not the best autobiography that I’ve ever read, but informative albeit a bit to deferential

Congratulations to Kata and Caspian!

That's soo cool that India took Lady Pamela to Iceland...very nice.

Oh the problems we have...who forget where you put your jewels? Unless you have some form of dementia...than forgive my snarky response.

I can identify with that story and I'm no where near Lady Pamela's age yet. I've been known to take rings off and put them away in a safe spot. The spot was so safe that even I couldn't find it. My solution now is not to take the rings off at all. :D

Memory is the strangest thing and when you get older you try a little Swedish Death Cleaning. However even though my sister's affairs were in order I had one last hurdle . . . her facebook password which had been changed. I still haven't found it.

Congratulations to the family! ?
That's a lot of name; but a lovely one though.
