Great. This is a role normally undertaken by the PoW and the Duchess of Cornwall, or in their absence, Prince Andrew.

I think it's great that William and Kate will carry this role out and it likely means that they will attend the banquet in the evening.

According to royal reporters, they are not attending the banquet.

Makes sense re them escorting the President to meet the Queen, the hotel is next door to KP

Given the health problems she still has because of her pregnancy, the Duchess will be lucky if she'll be able to carry out the ceremonial welcome. It is very unlikely that she'll suddenly feel so great that she will carry out two engagements in one day. So I don't dare hope to see her at the banquet.

If Catherine is well enough and she and William is part of the ceremonial welcome, this must mean that they are fully part of the State Visit. Only those who are participating fully in the State Visit greet the Head of State and escort them to the ceremonial welcome. I've not seen any of the royals who fully participate in the ceremonial welcome not attend the State Banquet.

Are you able to elucidate further on what you mean by "fully part of the State Visit"?

By saying that, I mean, William & Catherine are taking part in the lead role in welcoming the Head of State, The President and Mrs Tony Tan Keng Yam, and will escort them to the welcoming ceremonial welcome at Horse Guards Parade were The Queen & Duke of Edinburgh will be to give the welcome. When senior members of the royal family do this, they are fully participating in the State Visit. They usually give the welcome, escorted back to the palace in carriages and view the exhibition that has been put together for the State Visit. Later in the evening, those same royals who participated in the welcoming, attends the State Banquet in the honor of the visiting Head of State.

William and Kate are not due to attend the State banquet so there will be no tiara and ball gown (anticipating questions there :-) )

I know this all depends of Catherine is well enough to even take part in the welcoming ceremony but why on earth they wouldn't take part in the State Banquet, which is later that evening. I just find it dumb and sad that this is never fully explained. I've read tons of theories and speculations but nothing really officially solid. The whole thing never make any sense at all.

If well enough on October 21, the Duchess will join the Duke in welcoming the President and his wife, Mrs Tony Tan Keng Yam, at the Royal Garden Hotel, which neighbours Kensington Palace, before travelling with them to Horse Guards Parade for the traditional ceremonial welcome.

If she is too ill to take part in the carriage procession, alternative means of transport may be sought.
The couple are not expected to attend the State Banquet later that evening.
I hope she is feeling better by the 21st. She is still very touch and go. Her health comes first in my opinion.

The article says that they might find an alternative for the transport if she will not be well enough but the pulling out of the visit is ruled out it seems...

If the palace released a participation of kate it might means she is really starting to feel better otherwise they wouldn't have include her in right?

Except its difficult to predict illness. I agree she must be feeling somewhat better but to say she will be absolutely fit and well on the 21st is impossible. She may wake up that day and feel horrible.

I think they had to release the info on who will officially welcome the President and his wife for the State Visit. We already know that Catherine will only carry out the official engagement if she's felling well enough to do so. They are taking this by a case by case bases. Hopefully she will be okay by then.

Thanks! I thought so because when they announced that she had cancelled a visit the 1st October this engagement hadn't been prevously announced but I guess this state visit is a bid deal
