I don't think the Cambridges are that high profile yet when it comes to the monarchy and the diplomatic relationships between realms but rather that they are popular and recognizable.

As a rule, I think if the Cambridges have been invited to any of these formal dinners, they would have attended. As William once said, "You don't mess with Granny".
Exactly! As William and Harry Said What The Queen says and want is final. If The Queen wanted William and Catherine there then they would attend. There no stomping, Whining and Protest with the Queen. You won't get your way. She has''t obviously invited them yet because if she had then they would be attending. What she says goes and Her Grandkids espeically listen to granny.

Did Queen Victoria Grandson George and Wife Mary the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attend State event, banquets, etc,.? And how often?

I agree with both of you regarding HM and how she runs the Firm.

Queen Victoria's grandson was the Duke of York not Cambridge (that title was held by her cousin).

And yes they did attend State events while 2nd in line - mainly because Queen Victoria herself did not and she left that activity to the Prince of Wales - not that there were many of them as she often refused to attend and so the sort of State Visit we see today weren't happening. When foreign Heads of State visited they were as likely to be close family as anything else and so were privately entertained rather than the formal situations we have today - but George and May most certainly did attend - as did his sisters. She did attend the 1899 State Visit of the Kaiser and so did her entire British family - including the 2nd in line and his wife.

The president will be arriving on Tuesday right? I know timings are usually released closer that day but do you think it is likely to be around 11am?

The President and his wife will be arriving privately in the UK on Monday morning. The official ceremonial welcome is on Tuesday. Not sure the timing though. My guess is in the morning around 11am and 12pm. There's a private lunch after they arrive back at Buckingham Palace. I hope there will be some Live Coverage on Reuters Live Stream.

Well, there are times members of the royal family greeted the Head of State's at the airport though. Charles & Diana used to do it all the time.

State visit of the President of Singapore: 21-23 October 2014

Singapore to the UK is a pretty long haul. They are going to need to rest up a bit before the action starts. It's not like someone from Europe popping over the channel.

William and Catherine are due to meet the President at the Royal Garden Hotel and escort them to Horse Guards for the formal mtg. Carriage procession to BP and lunch, exchange of gifts etc.

It is not so much the length of the flight (have done it many, many times and will do it again next year) but the time it gets it e.g. at least one BA flight gets in at 5.30 a.m. (that mine next year) and Singapore much the same.

They will be in first class so able to sleep through the night (unlike those of us who travel cattle class who get to sit up all night).

It is more normal these days for the incoming visit to arrive the day before and have the official tour start the next day.

I suspect the President of Singapore might have his own plane.

It's great that various royals are taking part in the visit.
I hope Catherine is feeling better tomorrow, it would be great to see her. Her part in the visit is quite short, so I hope she makes it.

The Duchess of Cambridge will take part in the State visit by Singapore's president tomorrow, Kensington Palace says.

Just as well the President of Singapore is arriving the day before as the weather looks set to be horrible tomorrow with much wind and rain - so "they" say!
Anyway, it's always exciting to have a state visit and I am looking forward to all the events.

i am much relieved that Catherine is now well enough to take part! Can't wait to see her!

BBC Weather - London

The weather forecast for the morning is not too bad, so they may manage to avoid the rain when the official welcome at Horse Guards is taking place.
