Why not? If it's something she and William feel passionate about, I don't see why she couldn't decide not to wear it.

Because it would be some kind of an insult to the Queen, and to the other female members of the BRF.
I think the Duchess of Cambridge is just not the kind of woman to make such a statement for now...
And if she is really so passionate about it, alternatives to ivory exist. An order sans ivory could be made especially for her ...

Love the Queen's jewelery set....those sapphires are stunning!

Not really impressed with Kate's dress...the color is wonderful, not a fan of the top of it. Love her bling even if understated ...but I think that's her personal style too...figure it will be a long long time before we see her in serious bling.

Absolutely to what I was referring to, thank you for answering for me. Kate, imo, cannot be compared to Diana & Camilla who were/are the wife of the Prince of Wales. And likewise cannot be compared to a princess born into the family. Therefore, I think Sophie is the only one we can really compare her to in many cases.

They do take years to get, in some cases. As I said, Sophie didn't get hers until 2004.

And I would love the proof that Camilla didn't wear hers for her first state banquet?

Now that is a good point. Although, if the Duchess is joining her husband in his conservation efforts, then I would say she should never wear it. Choosing not to wear it just for this dinner would, imo, fall flat if she chooses to wear it in the future. If one is turning their back on something, in this case the ivory, then one must always come through. So if she wears it in the future, then I would say either she hasn't received it or her statement falls flat. If there is a statement to be made, of course.

No, Camilla did not wear her RFO during her first State Banquet-

Was it ever worn by a queen consort or a consort to the heir apparent though ? That is my test for "significance".

PS: The Queen Mother wore the Papyrus, but only as Duchess of York, and then Princess Margaret had it as one of her personal tiaras.

Mbruno - careful how you impugn the significance of Margaret. She is spinning in her grave as we speak.

Oh, none of it is an excuse Al_bina. Far from it! And as you so dislike the British Royal family it's a wonder you deign to comment on the BRF threads.

Not sure I'm buying the ivory spin, but that could be the case though. I just think Catherine should have the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II by now. If not now, then she should have it (if) she attends the Royal Reception for the Diplomatic Corps later this year. She's been a senior member of the royal family for nearly 5 years, has conducted several foreign royal tours on behalf of The Queen and has given birth to two heirs to the British throne. She deserves her RFO!

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall accompanied the Queen, Prince Philip, Mr Xi and his wife on the journey to Buckingham Palace
I LOVE DM:ROFLMAO:

Does the queen really have one more free RFO? Or it is necessary to find diamonds, to make a miniature, etc. It's quite expensive thing

She's not a full-time member, so the Queen may not feel she deserves it yet.

I have no idea if the ivory issue is valid. It's just speculation and is one of the many reasons that I've seen being given for Kate not wearing an order. Unless the Palace comes out with an explanation, we will likely never know why she's not wearing one yet.

I don't think her not being a full-time member of the royal family have much to do with her not having her RFO yet. It may be The Queen is waiting to give it to her as a 5th wedding anniversary or as a present to help celebrate Her Majesty's 90th birthday next year. She and William are pretty much making their way to full-time royal roles now.

I'm just saying, Catherine deserves her RFO by now.

Mrs Peng must think very highly of herself and her artistic talent.
She is a profesional singer and performing artist. It's absolutely appropriate to make such a gift.
The queen's gifts very often are personal: her photographs, food from her farms.

Does anyone have any guesses about what Madame Peng's brooch on today's white arrival suit is meant to be? A leaf, a flower and ? I can't figure it out but do love it!

To imagine that HM is displeased with Kate in some way is truly absurd! How wonderful that she is able to conduct a 4 day visit with all that it entails. Of course Diana and Camilla are/were POW, something that Kate is not.

Finally someone who said something, and I agree with you.

And to those of you who are surprised/disappointed because Kate has not received the RFO, and wonder why hasn't she? First - It was the Daily Fail who wrote that she received it.
Second - She is not a full time working royal, and I'm sure she will receive it when she is, maybe before.

I agree with you. Sarah didn't receive any order, but she was close to the Queen and still is.

If the Queen was displeased with Katherine I don't think she would've let her wear the bracelet Prince Philip gave her as a wedding present.

You're completely right, and she will receive the RFO with time.

OMG! Yes! I just noticed now she is wearing the Queen's special bracelet designed by Prince Philip!

This is the kind of Live coverage that I like-

As I said in an previous post, the state banquet was live on BBC News Channel and Sky News in UK. I know some of you complain of the lack of live images from the banquets, but it's the british media who normally don't bother to show it (if the visiting head of state isn't from the US or China.)

And I've seen many examples of it, BBC World New has several times shown the Queen's speeches and clips from the banquets, Scanpix has also shown many clips, even Norwegian tv/media sites, but at the same nothing on UK news channels.

It's so lovely to watch these videos! Could someone tell me who is the lady in grey wearing a tiara at minute 27:42 of the first video? She seems to be expecting and is very elegant and beautiful. She is also sitting in a prominent position.

In your opinion but clearly not HMs and it is her opinion that matters.

Where were the PoW and DoC?

I know, but lets give Catherine a pat on the back, because she's done a beautiful job so far and that shouldn't underestimated or dismissed, but rewarded. She should have her RFO by now, IMO. Hopefully, by next year. She's been a working senior royal for nearly 5 years, and has given the monarchy two heirs, it's time.

Where were the PoW and DoC?

Charles & Camilla didn't attend the State Banquet.

They had already greeted the President and his wife, escorted them to The Queen and hosted them in their home.

It was time for William, who had presented the actual invitation in person, to actually step and attend one of these events as a senior royal rather than stay in the background, as he has been doing for so long.

Charles was attending these events at 20 while William is already 33.

Relax I was not speaking against Charles and Camilla...I was just wondering why they weren't there...I just figured being a high profile event the seniors would be attending.

However since you brought it up...Charles was the PoW at 20 so he should of been doing them. William is merely the heir to the heir and not a full time royal.

Camilla looked great and appeared to have an excellent rapport with Madame Peng.

Great to see the BRF using Camilla to showcase her strengths. She puts everyone at ease.

Madame Peng was stylist and elegant. Loved all her outfits but the white belt should have been left at home.

The Chinese delegation presented the BRF with Madame Pengs albums and porcelain.

IMO, Catherine did not receive the RFO because she is not full time.

Camilla's first State Banquet was 6 months after she married so of course she would not have received the Order.

Sophie was not full time so she did not receive it as quickly as Camilla.

I did not expect Catherine to have the Order so I was not disappointed.
She is not even part time. She only occasionally works.
Dman, when her name moves up on the CC drop down list then you will know...(unless they make the change because they read it here...)

Princess Anne looked great. Interesting Tim sat in a different section from his wife. Is that an interpreter sitting behind Anne? Bizarre the extra chair behind Princess Anne.

Catherine in red with a Lotus tiara, Very cliche.

Bright red at the head table when everyone is in muted colors... The 'look at me' syndrome.

Any decent pictures of Princess Alexandra?
Does anyone know if Sophie attended and where Edward sat?
Any pictures of Princess Michael, the Duke of Gloucester, Prince Andrew? Did they attend?
Did Princess Michael attend without her husband?

Picture showing Anne and the bizarre chair placement, Tim, Duke of Kent, Duchess of Gloucester and possibly Princess Alexandra.

What are you talking about? Catherine is a senior member of the royal family, married to the second in line to the throne and is third lady in the land. Her place of sitting next to the President of China will tell you that.

The extra chair behind Princess Anne was for the interpreter to translate the President's speech.
