EDIT: The earrings are nice though.

The Queen of Spain has to borrow a tiara?!? Are these personal belongings of Qu Sophia ? Yesterdays Fleur-de-Lys tiara was in the spanish royal family before Sophia married JC, so it couldn´t be of her personal possession.

By the way, I´m very happy the current Queen doesn´t wear the Shell tiara tonight which I find quite an ugly piece of jewellery...

Very nice. Again, any answer on why Prince Charles doesn't seem to bow to Queen Letizia?

I´ve noticed that the Queen Mother in her later years also only wore her Garter for state banquets, even when related royal guests came which I´m sure she was bestowed, as Queen Mother, a very high ranking order.

Well, the british RF simply does it differently than any other monarchy

Yes, she does. The only tiaras that are technically hers to wear are the big Fleur de Lys, which is reserved for the current queen, and the small Fleur de Lys, which she got as a wedding gift. The two Cartier tiaras are owned by King Juan Carlos, who either inherited them or bought them from his relatives. the Prussian fringe was given to Queen Sofia by her mother, and the Mellerio Shell, the Floral and the Rubies were also personal gifts to Sofia, so I suppose she owns them too.

Letizia has been wearing the Floral quite regularly though since she was Princess of Asturias . Maybe the family has made some arrangement about the ownership of that tiara which we are not aware of. I don't really know .

I guess for the next monarch State Visit, Charles and Camilla and the Cambridge's will have a more active role in the visit. Who knew the more active you are in the visit, the more chance you will get an order.

Good pic here of Anne's stars, definitely two .. Spanish Royals visit UK - Day 2 | jose gegundez | photographer

Personally I don't see the problem with that way of giving orders. Why should Catherine get something for going to dinner at her mother in laws house while Anne, Harry and Andrew hosted them on different bits of their official programme? People may not like it but I don't think you can say its unfair.

As I said before, it is probably not their fault that they didn't have a more active role. It was the Queen's decision.

I know some posters disagree, but ignoring precedence and awarding orders to Anne, Harry and Andrew , and not to Camilla, Will or Kate, was a big blunder by the Spanish king IMHO. Besides, the mystery of the missing sashes or ribbons has not been solved yet.

Maybe, as Wartenberg said, Princess Anne decided to follow the Queen Mother's example and wear only the sash of the Garter with a foreign star, but that would be Windsor arrogance again. Seriously, I don't get it !

Not wearing the sash of an order you kindly received and not even wearing the star would be a great embarressment....

It is nice to know that Queen Sofia can leave family tiaras to Infanta Elena's and Infanta Christina's daughters.

I don't see a mystery re the Sash. A KCVO doesn't get a Sash so obviously this particular level of the Order of Isabella the Catholic doesn't get a Sash either just a breast star.

Yes, but a Commander would wear the badge of the order on a necklace like a KCVO, wouldn't he ? (you don't get a breast star alone AFAIK). Harry was wearing his KCVO insignia around his neck yesterday , rather than the appropriate insignia of Commander of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, and there lies the mystery.

As for the sash, one of the sites quoted by another poster said that Anne was made a Grand Cross, so she should be wearing a Spanish sash.

Nice to see Princess Anne hosting the Guildhall dinner. In the past I think the Gloucesters and Andrew have had the duty.

Do I remember that Anne may have been a godmother to Felipe? Could be wrong .. although that may be the reason why she was the host. JMHO

Charles and Camilla have played the role in this State Visit that they do in most of them - the role of the heir apparent and spouse. When they were overseas it was the role played by William and Kate.

They don't do the minor royals role of escorting them to events but do the greet and meet and host them at their home.

That is the correct precedence side of things.

Getting awards isn't their reason for doing something. It is just that Felipe decided to hand them out to those who showed him around rather than the more important role of actually meeting him and escorting him to Horseguards to be formally presented to HM.

All William and Kate did was have dinner - and that won't be any different unless Charles is again overseas or incapacitated until William is the heir apparent. The rest of the State Visit is left to the minor royals - often the Gloucester's and Kent's do those duties even.

I don't care a twit. I'm just making an observation. I dressed better when I went to Westminster Abbey while on vacay because I had respect for where I was. Surely a Queen could do the same. Defend her all you want. I don't care. But if I were Spanish I would be embarrassed.
Well, I am a Spaniard and I am not embarrassed. QL looks lovely and it is a Carolina Herrera ensemble. She is a modern queen.
