For 'State Visits' two or three days is fairly normal.
For extended tours of the country no - they would be there for longer.

The format of State visits to the UK is fairly standard, and usually extends to 2.5 days. It includes, amongst other things, a ceremonial welcome at BP, the state dinner, a visit to No 10, tea at Clarence House, reception at the Guildhall, and a send off from BP.

Queen to give President Jacob Zuma 'history lesson' tour of private exhibition - Telegraph

President Jacob Zuma is to be given a fascinating "history lesson" this week when the Queen shows him a special, private exhibition of memorabilia revealing Britain's ties to South Africa.

Scores of gifts, photographs, letters, speeches and other artefacts – previewed exclusively by The Sunday Telegraph – will be on eight tables in the first-floor Picture Gallery at Buckingham Palace, where the President of South Africa and one of his three wives are staying as guests of the Queen and Prince Philip.

Jacob Zuma prepares for tea at Buckingham Palace - Telegraph

For even the most well-travelled heads of state, an invitation from the Queen to stay poses any number of dilemmas over etiquette and dress.

But for the flamboyant President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, this week's official visit to Buckingham Palace has brought an unusual predicament: which of his three wives to take.

Strange it works fo me... maybe if you try to refresh the page ?

According to the British monarchy website, it was the the Viscount Brookeborough, Lord-in-Waiting, who welcomed the presidential couple on behalf of the Queen.

On a side note, it seems that the tradition of a return banquet is now gone ...

When the link opens, refresh the page and it should work.

I have been wondering about Return Banquets. Usually the visiting country holds a banquet as well the next day correct? Can someone elaborate some more?

Polygamy row clouds British welcome for South Africa's Zuma

The article has a nice photo of the Duchess, President, and Queen. I love the colour of the emeralds, they're so deep matched with the dark green dress.

Princess Michael was there but it's rare to get good pics of those attending banquets which is always frustrating IMO. The Court Circular says Prince Edward attended alone which was a pity as we might have got a pic of Sophie in her regalia as a GCVO.
