British flags decorate streets in front of the Vilnius Cathedral 16 October 2006 in Vilnius as the city prepares for the first ever visit of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip to the Baltic state. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic ties between Britain and the Baltic states, which were independent between 1919 and 1940.

Queen Elizabeth II is related to Lithuanian medieval ruler

Queen Elizabeth II is a distant relative of the duke who ruled Lithuania in the 14th century, a newspaper reported as the 80-year-old British monarch began her first visit here.
