the Princess Royal is the most frequent visitor to the province whilst Prince William has never made a visit
 
No invite to Ireland?

Hi everyone, is there any logical explanation as to why the Queen has never paid a State visit to the Republic of Ireland?.......is it simply because she has never recieved an invitation, or maybe there's a bit more to it than that?
 
One would imagine that the ongoing state of tensions with regards to Northern Ireland would be the reason. Take a look at the history of Anglo-Irish relations since 1922 (at least!), and you have your answer.

Additionally, security would be an enormous issue. The Provos would have a field day with a visit by HM to Ireland, and while it's true that the IRA has disarmed, I imagine some of the still-extant hardliners wouldn't see too much of a problem with trying something on if she were to visit.
 
There's been talk recently of a possible visit next year, but I suspect such rumors abound every year.
 
actually the Irish President has extended an invitation to the Queen to visit on condition that policing and justice powers are devolved to the assembly in northern ireland - that is due to happen at some point in the next year so i guess we will wait and see

the queen probably would never have been welcomed in ireland as tensions remain pretty high about any sort of british influence or control but i guess the time is right now to extend the welcome to her
 
This afternoon Her Majesty and His Royal Highness arrived in Londonderry at the begining of a Royal visit to Northern Ireland

It's a three day visit

i got caught up in the Queen's motorcade today as it was skirting the outskirts of Belfast this afternoon - didnt really get a good look at her as they flew past

Completely understandable :D Nevertheless I think that his brave
reaction impressed her more :) - I hope he was asked before the
Queen entered the room..;)

I notice today is one of those rare occasions when HM wears her brooch on her right side (obviously due to her assymetric coat design)

:ermm: The coat design isn't assymetric, the buttons are straight down the center. There are however appliques on the left side of the coat.:flowers:

I meant the design detail is assymetric, not the edge of the coat. I could see that the opening was central, but a brooch would probably not look good on that heavy black applique.

The following photographs were taken afterwards in Victoria Barracks, the home of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards, where The Queen came to attend the Regimental reception. The Irish Guards were last stationed in the royal town of Windsor in 1980 and I think it was the last time she was in Victoria Barracks to celebrate St Patrick's Day with The Queen Mother at the time.

I actually had the honour of seeing her very close and to receive a very nice smile and 'Good afternoon' from The Queen.

Hopefully the Duke didn't wrench something when this happened- sometimes preventing a fall can be worse than an actual fall itself.
