FAILURE of British Monarchy Website to UPDATE CC

The weekly failure of the British Monarchy website: Nothing for this week.

They still have no entry for the 6th April – the day that Harry arrived in Australia and visited the Australian War Memorial. I will keep this date public until either there is an entry or the end of the year in which case it will be clear that that event wasn’t an official engagement for Harry.

There is nothing from 3rd to 9th but that was Easter so wouldn't expect anything for 3rd, 4th or 5th. (3rd Good Friday, 4th Easter Saturday, 5th Easter Day).


6th was Harry's arrival in Australia and his visit to the War Memorial and that isn't on the British monarchy website at all.


The next entry after the 2nd is the 10th when Edward did something.

A very busy week with all the commemoration events for the 100th anniversary of ANZAC Day on the 24th April. We all saw Charles and Harry at the various Gallipoli events and Anne and Tim in London at their Dawn Service there while The Queen, Philip and William attended other events. The Duke of Kent was in Australia for the ceremonies there. Others were out and about doing the normal types of events. There was also a rare engagement for Prince Michael of Kent this week when he attended a Church Service and subsequent Reception with the Queen and senior royal family members.

Weekly update to 7th May, 2015

Unlike last week which was very busy this was a very quiet week. It should be noted that Harry’s events in Sydney on 7th May are NOT mentioned in the CC so it is clear that HM doesn’t regard Harry’s events in Australia as official events. That would also explain why there is nothing in the CC for the 6th April.

I didn’t include Kate giving birth as an official engagement even though it was in the CC – but then so are the anniversaries of the birthdays of the senior members of the BRF along with changes to Ladies-in-Waiting.

There are now four members of the family who have done over 100 engagements for the year with The Earl of Wessex joining The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Princess Royal. Edward’s trip to America during this past week helping his numbers of course. This past week was a rarity with Anne undertaking no official duties.

Weekly update to 14th May, 2015

It was a reasonably busy week with 115 engagements and some interesting ones for Harry ‘crossing a river’ and ‘travelled by tram’. In the UK I don’t count something like ‘drove from xxxx to yyyy’ even though it registers as a mention in the CC so I am not totally sure that getting from point a to point b by some means of transport for Harry should count but I have done so.

The CC listed the ‘Garden Party’ as an ‘Afternoon Party’ this week which is why I have listed it that way. Earlier in the year they had a Garden Party and Sophie went to a Garden Party in the Channel Islands. The ‘Services of Thanksgiving’ are all classed as ‘Commemorative Services’.

We all saw Andrew and Beatrice attending the Lighting the Beacon event with The Queen and Philip but the Queen mustn’t have regarded that as an official event for them as they weren’t included in the CC. Prince and Princess Michael of Kent’s attendance at the Duke of Wellington’s Service of Thanksgiving also weren’t official as they weren’t included either.

I have also been keeping an informal count for Beatrice – for fun and based on information people have linked to here with the ‘charity’ things and other things they would get a count for other royals – and she has done at least 12 such events this year.

Weekly update to 21st May, 2015

This was the busiest week of the year so far. A number of royals were overseas – Charles and Camilla, William, Edward, Sophie and Richard although only Charles and Camilla’s first two days and William’s one day seems to have gained any real coverage in the press.

A large number of The Queen’s engagements were to do with receiving people who were relinquishing or being appointed to new positions. They were all listed separately so I counted them separately. Sometimes these things are listed jointly e.g. The Queen received xxxx on relinquishing his/her position as yyy and received zzzz on being appointed to yyyy. That I count as one but when listed as they were this week – ‘The Queen received xx on relinquishing his/her position’. New entry ‘The Queen received zzz on being appointed to his/her position.

19th May was the busiest day of the year with 47 engagements which was nearly one third of the week’s total.

The Duke of Gloucester is in Brazil where he has attended two ‘Queen’s Birthday Parties’ along with a number of other events. I do find it interesting that he rarely travels with the Duchess.

My informal count for Beatrice has her with no new additions this week so she remains on 12.

There will be a delay with the update this week as the monarchy website hasn't updated for the 28th May - the day of the garden party.


It also hasn't anything up for the 24th but as that was a Sunday it is possible there were no engagements on that day.


I know that many people do read the update on the Saturday Sydney time as that is when I have the time to do the update but without the information I can't do a complete update.

Weekly update to 28th May, 2015

This week was half as busy as last week with only 78 engagements. The count is always higher when there are members of the family are overseas as they tend to do a lot more in a short period of time and last week 5 members of the family were overseas whereas this week’s count only includes the final day of the overseas visits.

The first appearance for the year for Princess Beatrice in the CC and the second for Princess Michael at the Afternoon Party on Thursday.

This high point of the week was the glitz and glamour of the State Opening of Parliament of course.

My informal count for Beatrice has her with no new additions this week.

FAILURE of British Monarchy Website to UPDATE CC

The weekly failure of the British Monarchy website: 28th May(thanks to Cepe I have the information). This was also the busiest day of the week with 24 engagements due to the number of royals at the Afternoon Party.

The missing days from last week – the 20th and 21st May are now up to date on the monarchy website. It seems that they aren’t updating on a Friday but waiting until the following Monday/Tuesday to update from Thursday and then through the weekend.

No days, from earlier in the year, are missing on the website now so it seems it is coming down to me used to going from Thursday to Thursday with my updates and they aren’t updating the Thursday information until the following Monday, although Monday to Wednesday are updated the next day.

I read an article this week about how the Queen is overworked and overburdened by royal duties. Looking at the weekly figures, it is clear that HM, Philip, Charles and Anne are the Queen's cousins, taking their age into account. Allowing for the fact that the Cambridge and Wessexes have young children, this leaves Andrew and Harry with the most scope for increasing their royal workload. Most noticeably, Charles has performed two and a half times as many engagements as Andrew has so far this year.

Camilla is also on a fairly low number compared to her husband. I realise she is in her 60s but I expect her workload to increase drastically when she is Queen.

Andrew has been one of the hardest working royals until he was forced to step down as Trade Ambassador. Since then he has struggled to find events to replace all the ones he used to do. Given the scandal of course it is also possible that some organisations may not want him there either.


Harry can't up his numbers for some time as he has indicated that like William he wants to have a job in the workforce. We also need to remember that in all probability he will marry and have young children of his own and then would have to cut back.


While William has the right to have a job in the private sphere and he is the future king it is only reasonable for Harry to expect the same rights - particularly when he has a young family of his own.


Camilla is steadily increasing her numbers but it was made clear when she married that she was a support to Charles and would do things with which she was passionate but wasn't going to be a 400 a year person.


What we are seeing is the transfer to the new idea of no cousins working and even siblings being slowly sidelined. I suspect that Andrew's numbers will continue to drop and in time so will Edward and Anne's so that by the time William is King instead of around 4000 a year the expectation will be around 1000 a year done by the immediate family and no extended family at all. That doesn't mean that those currently working will suddenly stop but that no new members will be added to the roster to replace them.

Normally the time of year isn't a problem as the CC has to be signed off each day by HM for inclusion in the print media. That is still happening. What isn't happening is that the staff in the palace press office, who I assume are responsible for updating the website are failing in doing their job.


I will keep listing missing days - where there is a definite CC as it is in the print media in the UK (and online as well but behind a paywall).


I know that other sites and fora are noticing this failing as well.


Someone in that office needs a boot up the backside as the internet is a major part of most organisations PR these days and the BRF are missing a trick with this one.

Besides the errors with the Court Circular on the website, there are more things which need a major re-do. Too many factual errors, needlessly complicated and sadly a division in various websites like the one of the Prince of Wales and the one of the British monarchy. I thought when the Court Organizations of the Prince and the Queen merged together, this would be visible in one, modern, transparent and quick website, with correct and timely updated information. For so far not much has happened. It indeed can use a new webmaster.

The merging of the press offices I believe has been unmerged as it simply didn't work.


The main website doesn't include upcoming events for any of the Wales branch of the family or Andrew most of the time as Charles' office looks after that - and it is woeful - while Andrew does his own thing and that is worse still. That regards upcoming events.


Past events - those in the CC were getting very good until a week or so ago - they have missed up to 8 days in the last two weeks whereas before that they hadn't missed a day for about 2 months.


The problems actually started when they tried to merge the press offices but it hasn't returned to the state it was in before the attempted merger when it worked quite well.

A quietish week with only 75 engagements for the family of which the online CC has recorded 11. The rest I have thanks to Cepe.

Charles has been overseas but only one engagement there was official as this is his almost annual visit to his home in Transylvania. Most of the family did one or two engagements with a number of joint engagements but not involving husbands and wives e.g. the WI events.

The weekly failure of the British Monarchy website: 29th (14), 30th (1) and 31st (1) May and 2nd (19), 3rd (13) and 4th (16) June for a total of 64 missed engagements this week.

The missing days from last week – 28th May (24) is still missing.

No days, from earlier in the year, are missing on the website now so it seems that they have simply dropped the ball since the end of May – although why they managed to get the 1st June up and forget the rest of the week I don’t know.


The figures in purple are the number of engagements recorded in the CC in the print and/or online editions of The Times.
