Both yesterday and today it seemed they get along really well. Indeed, mostly good for William and Catherine to interact a bit more with the Continental royals; and Willem-Alexander and Máxima might be good guides into that world (although I am aware they've met most of the others as well).

Given that Zara and William are godparents to each other's eldest children, I am quite sure that are truly close (for each it's at least their 'closest cousin').

WA and Felipe were both at the Cambridges wedding and although probably didn’t spend much time together, it still was an ‘olive branch’ if you will. The Cambridges seem to get along well with Victoria and Daniel as well as the Norwegian crown princely couple. I look forward to more candid moments together.

They do interact - just not publicly.

Most of the European royals are regular visitors to London and so see their British counterparts a lot more than we think they do.

The British don't go to Europe as often as the Europeans visit the UK privately.

A thought about the light blue color worn by HM and many royal ladies today. Could it possibly be a tip of the hat to Queen Maxima? It is the color of the Argentine flag.

I would hope not. She is the queen of the Netherlands, not of Argentina; so if a nod had to be made, they should have worn orange (which I wouldn't necessarily recommend).

Maybe it is a two-fer; a salute to WA's lovely consort the day after his Garter installation, and little wave across the Atlantic. The BRF seems to be charged with the velvet part of pre-Brexit diplomacy.

I'm mainly focusing on the light blue, not politics, mind.

I like the fact that King Willem-Alexander not only wore a top hat but carried an umbrella.

Why are some of the royals wearing their badge and others are not (and why is Zara's different from the others in lay-out; and it seems hers says Mrs. Zara Tindall instead of Mrs. Michael Tindall).

I love Royal Ascot, the people, the horses, the amazing ensembles, the laughter and general messing around . . . and that's just the BRF!

Camilla looked great in pink and sporting an honest to gosh hat. Beatrice's hat was lovely, nobody wears a boater as she does. Eugenie's mustard coloured hat was a hard one to pull off with the teal dress, it was unfortunate that the tailoring of the bodice was not as good as it should have been.

Sophie never ceases to amaze and this year is no different with the under brim of her awesome hat reflecting her ballerina length dress. Catherine looked like Catherine, same hat different colour, boring top shape and gorgeous under the brim. Unfortunately, her Edwardian style Ellie Saab dress that left her looking for an Easter Parade.

Queen Maxima and her husband came to Royal Ascot and the passcode was an Ascot-worthy ensemble and admission to the Royal enclosure was covered by her wonderful, OTT Ascot hat. Everything was as it should be, her ensemble was wonderfully balanced and she and her main accessory, King WA could give Harry and Meghan a run for their money in the PDA stakes.

Zara and her irrepressible other half are a terrific double act and I loved the great big bear hug he gave Eugenie and the video of him showing HM his tiny topper within his actual topper were wonderful family snapshots in much the same way that Charles and Zara have an ongoing 'Ascot thing' going on which never gets old.

HM absolutely glowed. From nudging Maxima to wave on the carriage ride in, to sharing her love of Ascot with her guests. She fairly bubbled her way around Ascot; smiling benevolently at her family, laughing and shaking her head at Mike. All in all, she vibrated with the joys of life and living, her family and the horses and racing. Her sheer joie de vivre seemed totally contagious.

Check out this intimate picture of William and Catherine during Royal Ascot-

Eight years of marriage and three children later and they still look at each other with such passion.

I noticed the Sheikh of Dubai on several photos too, with the duke and duchess of Cambridge but without Pss Haya. Haya did attend last year's Ascot races but she has not been seen [in public] for months.

The British don't go to Europe as often as the Europeans visit the UK privately.

During the short kingship of WA and Máxima, the Queen has met them for an "introduction visit" to Windsor, at the National Remembrance, during the State Visit and of course the Garter / Ascot. In between the Duchess of Cambridge has met the King in his private villa when she visited the Netherlands. Prince Michael of Kent has met the King when he escorted him during a remembrance of the Battle of Chatham. The Princess Royal has met him when he left the International Olympic Committee. The Prince and Princess of Wales witnessed his Investiture and of course during the Remembrance, the State Visit, the Garter, at Ascot. The Earl and Countess of Wessex were guests at the 50th birthday of the King. And these were only the official meetings. Earlier this year the King and Queen have been the Queen's guests for a few days, I thought at Windsor indeed.

Top hat variety

Top hats are the dress code for gentlemen at Royal Ascot. I thought it was a standard design. But I noticed some variation in the height of the crown. Willem Alexander’s seemed lower, Mike Tindalls seemed quite tall. Any comments about this? Can you order your own specific height?

AND, how do Royal ladies survive a day on grass in stiletto heels? QE2 and Camilla choose lawn friendly lower block heels.

Queen Elizabeths way to laugh is so wonderful. She is so sweet.

Day 2

The Duchess of Cornwall and Princess Michael looked lovely. Sophie's ensemble was much better than the yesterday's one. I am looking forward to seeing Lady Carolyn Warren and The Countess of Snowdon.

Princess Haya is said to have health issues. Perhaps, they prevented her from attending the 2019 Ascot races.
