It looks photoshopped too because the Queen has a sort of halo effect around her head.

I like the portrait very much. I don't know why, maybe it is a mere liking because the picture is all about the monarch and the heir...

IMO i think if the photographer wanted to play with the lighting and symbolism he could have made it with more natural lighting like in this 2 portraits
https://theasianfashionjournal.files...abeth-ii-7.jpg
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...d0fdd49851.jpg

i also have a problem with the fake background what is more regal and scream monarchy more than the white drawing room of buckingham palace .

Wow. Charles is the spitting image of his great uncle Edward.

I've noticed that resemblance myself.

I don't notice it so much with Charles, but I do think that in profile Harry sometimes resembles Edward VIII. I think it's the shape of the nose, seen from the side.

I would've like to see a painting of The Queen and The Prince of Wales. Maybe in their Garter robes or in regalia.

One thing we have with over 60 years of having HM on the throne is portraits in regalia and portraying her as the monarch and the same with Charles over the years and will continue into his years as a monarch also. Its kind of refreshing for a 90th birthday portrait to have it be representative of mother and son. Makes it much more memorable to me.

I think it is a rare photo that is not retouched or, these days, photoshopped however, I don't think it's an issue. HM is clearly not sitting square front on the chair. In fact she is sitting at quite an angle which would leave plenty of room for Charles hand to rest on the chair back.

I believe you have really hit the nail on the head. It is rare to see such a royal photo and who needs yet another picture of robes and regailia.
This portrays a really unique moment between mother and son and leaves you wondering just what it was that Charles said to inspire such a wonderful look of suppressed humour on HM face.

Duh. I just noticed the new portrait must have been taken at/before/after this (I think it was) birthday event? http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...2371839538.jpg

HM had just arrived back from the Windsor horse show and they were both about to leave for the 90th Birthday dinner. HM is trying not to laugh at a joke Charles made.

He's obviously a skilled painter technically, but imo there's something not quite right about the portraits. Can't really put my finger on it; maybe it's the look in the eyes that is not what it should be..
Seems to catch the figure but not the personality of the person

Anyone besides me notice that George III and Queen Elizabeth have very similar hairstyles?

I find this portrait very interesting as from a historical perspective, it covers the reign of the last monarch of the "colonies" of the New World until the present reign of the UK and the Commonwealth. Its mind boggling to think how so much has changed between the two reigns.

I like it.
