On This Day: British Royal Family

Today is the anniversary of the Queen's proclamation as Queen and I thought that it would be nice to start an On this Day thread for the family where TRF members could mark important dates in the British Royal Family as their anniversaries appear.

So I'll start with today's important event:


On Feb 8, 1952 exactly 56 years ago from today, a new queen was proclaimed.

The Queen opened her speech,

"By the sudden death of my dear father I am called to assume the duties and responsibilities of sovereignty."

On Feb. 24, 1981 the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer announced that they were to wed.

wow, I have not seen that interview for a really long time, it is so weird to watch something like that knowing what was going through her head, and what was to happen. Watching It again I can see how Diana became so popular so fast, what a sweet girl standing there giggling:)

In 1958, Prince Charles, age 9, was made the Prince of Wales by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
