If I understand correctly, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are not allowed to have their mother with them at Sandringham Christmas. I wonder if that is why they look apologetic and with lower self esteem than the other royals?
If they were my girls, they would not be allowed to participate in such an abusive ritual.

The Duke of Edinburgh does not want Sarah, Duchess of York, to be with the Royal Family on Christmas, but The Queen does put her up in a house on the Sandringham Estate so she can be with her daughters, she just doesn't stay in the "big house." Sarah said that she respected these arrangements understanding her daughters' positions as royal princesses. Yet to make it clear, she does see them and spend time with them at Christmas.

I don't think the Royal family are in a position that is any different from other families where there has been a divorce.
Many children spend at least part of the Christmas holidays away from one or other parent.
Sarah is well aware that her daughters have duties as princess's of the realm and encourages them to honour those duties.
Princess Anne's children also spend Christmas away from their father and half sister.

I think Beatrice is vert confident in her royal role , Eugenie's very shy and i don't think she likes that kind of attention.
I think the girls are ok with the situation now (Sarah staying in another house on the estate) ,i think it must have been hard when they were little

This is not the position of the typical divorced family. In this case the mother of these 2 girls has been banned from "the big house", from the established authority, from the protocol and ceremonies of superiority. It's disgraceful.
Perhaps Prince Philip styles himself after the old curmudgeon in "Little Lord Fauntleroy", but at least the old man evolved into a human being in this movie.

Well...it'd be funny if Sarah threw herself into the crowd at Sandringham and when Eugenie and Beatrice come walking by she waved and yelled at them like a maniac. Haha...it's sad that Sarah has been banned from "royalness". Oh well...
"Little Lord Fauntleroy" or whatever that book was called- good book...that little kid was SUCH a goody-goody...it annoyed me. No one really reads that book anymore because no one can relate to Cedric any more...

zhontella: Typical divorced families live in two completely different houses, and one parent rarely sees the children on Christmas...I think the Queen is trying to make the best of a situation...

The Queen does try to include Sarah and make the situation work, and I think She is doing pretty good since She has the entire world watching every move Her and Her family makes. The important thing is that the princesses see their mother at Christmas unlike some divorced parents.
