The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will visit Malta and continue to Uganda for a State Visit followed by the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

This visit will include the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on 23 November 2007, and other events linked to CHOGM.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will also be making an official visit to Uganda during and after CHOGM. They will be present at the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government on November 23, 2007.

The thread will be opened closer to the date.

She is happy and radiant. Any better photo of Philip in Malta?

She looks terrific and very animated!
Beatrix Fan, did you have a hand in the dress or hat?:D

 No I didn't. I wish she had have asked me my opinion though - who wears a hat and coat to go on holiday? Ok so she's off to that Commonwealth booze up but surely she could have roughed it for the plane to Malta? I love the two outfits but I think it's a little OTT. She's turning into Zsa Zsa Gabor.

:lol:No, cuz if she were, she'd have slapped them all and flounced away.

Well, two outfits for a trip is actually "roughing it" for The Queen. When she came here to the US, she changed like four times in one day; of course, to be fair, she had that many engagements going on. I dunno.... all I know is that her two outfits for Malta today were both brilliant.

Prince Philip strolled past the ITN crew in Uganda, presumably during the military inspection, and he asked if the journalist was "finished?" making her burst out laughing........ Classic!

Wasn't the Chain a lovely gift, more decorations!!

The outfits HM has had at both Malta and Uganda so far have been stunning and very elegant and get an A+++ shuch a regal look.

There will be a tiara at Uganda a the garter star for The Queen.

I've always much admired Her Majesty's choice to wear colours which quite often than not, reflect the landscape of whatever country she visits in an official capacity. It's done on purpose which I think is a nice gesture of sorts.

Doesen't Uganda have a monarchy?

No they have a president, The Queen used to be Queen back in the early 60s when HMs title was

Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen of Uganda and of Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth (1962-1963)

Uganda has five traditional monarchies within a republic. Idi Admin did his best to suppress or destroy them, but they were restored in the early 1990s.
See the Royalty of Uganda thread.

How very interesting, I never knew about these monarchies, one really does learn a new item of Royal information everytime one visits The Royal Forums

These were my thoughts as well, Madame Royale :flowers:

If she wasn't the Queen, I would call her the "Snow Princess" today :)

SAN ANTON PALACE, VALLETTA, MALTA

Today is the Sixtieth Anniversary of the Marriage of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.

Her Majesty invested His Royal Highness with the Royal Victorian Chain.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh left Heathrow Airport, London, this afternoon to visit Malta and Uganda.

I noticed on Rex that there is a picture of HM at a reception in
Kampala. She has on white dress with red patterns -anyone found a better picture please?

GillW, I think this is the picture you are taking about:

Now, the Duchess is dressed appropriately for travelling. Simple white dress, jacket and gloves. Why the Queen insists on donning the whole kit for every move she makes is beyond me.

One must realise this is the era Her Majesty is from, and I think that people who make an effort to turn out and see her would be very dissappointed if she did not put on her hat, handbag and gloves, that is whta one expects from The Queen.
