Weekly Update to 5th December, 2019

William undertook his three day visit to Kuwait and Oman this week. Others continued with the usual round of visits, openings, audiences (The Queen). The highlight was the NATO reception although the pictures seemed rather limited to those of Anne ‘snubbing Trump’. The Gloucesters were also at this event.

Just a reminder that this is my personal record and is not anything official. This is being done for my personal enjoyment and I am pleased to share it with all of you, many of whom have made it possible via assistance as well as some very supportive comments. When Tim O'Donovan's count comes out later this month, or early next, it is his personal record. I am sure that we differ because of the way we count some things, even though we use the same source - the Court Circular. I do NOT use any other source for the official engagements, even though many of the royals do things that aren't in the CC.

I have already started to do my summary of each royal as an individual which includes a few extra things - e.g. how often a couple do an engagement together, and a breakdown of the section on meeting politicians into about 8 different categories. I will start putting it up after Christmas assuming there are no listed engagements in the FE at that time. Currently the last engagement listed for the FE is on 17th December.

MISSING DAYS from the British Monarchy online CC in September: 13th, 14th and 18th September and 14th November. Any dates I list as missing are dates for which I have another source.

Milestones achieved this week: Anne topped the 500 mark this week.

Approaching a milestone: Tim is still moving slowly towards his half century (49).

Weekly Update to 12th December, 2019

This started as a very quiet week and then became a fairly busy week with lots of engagements on the 10th, 11th and 12th December. The Service of Thanksgiving for Sir Donald Gosling was well attended. Normally these sorts of things end up with a long list of ‘was represented by xxx’ but this thanksgiving service was attended by 6 members of the family. I could be cynical and ask was this attendance due to the reports today that Sir Donald left close on $AUS100 million for a new royal yacht?

The highlight of the week was the Diplomatic Reception of course – the last ‘grand’ event of the year.

Over the rest of the year there will be the odd engagement (the FE has one listed for the Gloucesters on the 17th) and we have the cut down version of the State Opening of Parliament on the 19th and that may very well be the total for the year, although I wouldn’t be surprised if the Queen’s doesn’t have another audience with the PM and some swearing in of ministers this week as well.

MISSING DAYS from the British Monarchy online CC in September: 13th, 14th and 18th September and 14th November. Any dates I list as missing are dates for which I have another source.

Milestones achieved this week: Tim reached his half century – by representing Anne at the aforementioned Thanksgiving Service.

Weekly Update to 19th December, 2019

This is one of those weeks when we see lots of royals but few engagements actually undertaken. The Christmas lunch and staff party are not official engagements and so don’t appear in the CC. It was a quiet week with quite a few family members apparently now on holidays although there were some fairly important engagements with a second State Opening of Parliament on Thursday.

Charles still has an engagement pending, on Monday but otherwise there is nothing in the calendar now until the 7th January, 2020. Of course there may still be engagements but I am only referring to those in the FE or on the PoW’s website.

Some things have been left out of this week's summary as there was no change from last week.

Thank you as ever iluvbertie for all your hard work!

It looks (bar some miraculous change in the next week) as if Charles will be the hardest working in terms of number of engagements and Anne by the number of days worked. Nice to see William's numbers getting higher - both engagements and number of days worked.

Again thank you for another year of tallying the activities as well as your very detailed calculations on the number of days worked and the organizations represented throughout the year in the British Royal Family engagements thread.

I wish the British royals would do an end of the year documentary where it show all the work they did throughout the year. You know, a behind the scenes program with members of the royal family giving an in-depth perspective on their work with their patronage’s. I think it would be a good thing.

Actual feel that many people here on the forum would do a better job at it then the news broadcasters. Provide better insight and perspective and balance.

Weekly Update to 26th December, 2019

As this was Christmas week there were very few engagements. The Christmas Day church services are not listed in the CC other than as ‘divine service’ (for the early service) and nothing for the later service. There is no list of who was at either service.

This update will only include information for those sections that had changes. As only Charles undertook any engagements this will be a shortened version.

Unless there is an engagement done from the 27th to 31st December this will be the final update for the year, other than the detailed 'yearly summary' for each royal.

MISSING DAYS from the British Monarchy online CC in September: 13th, 14th and 18th September and 14th November. Any dates I list as missing are dates for which I have another source. I am going to do a thorough check of missing dates from the online CC with my other source later this week as part of my final analysis for the year.

Not for the purposes of saying one is more accurate than the other at all. The Times have published Tim O'Donovan's figures for this year.

The Queen 295
Prince of Wales 521
The Duchess of Cornwall 224
Duke of Cambridge 220
Duchess of Cambridge 126
Duke of Sussex 201
Duchess of Sussex 83
Princess Anne 506
Prince Andrew 274
Earl of Wessex 308
Countess of Wessex 236
Duke of Kent 203
Duke of Gloucester 226
Duchess of Gloucester 84
Princess Alexandra 60

It may have been a bumpy year for the royal family but they have diligently continued their public engagements at home and abroad.

The Prince of Wales was the hardest-working of them, attending 521 functions. This was more than his sister, the Princess Royal, who is historically the most industrious.

The siblings have shared the bulk of royal duties since the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh began to scale back their work in the mid-1990s. Prince Charles, heir to the throne, is understood to have plans to slim down the monarchy.

***
Mr O’Donovan, 87, of Datchet in Berkshire, said: “He doesn’t know for how long he’s going to be out of work, but it’s going to have an effect. He does a lot of work.”

Unless other members take up the slack next year, it is likely that the total number of engagements will fall below 3,500 for the first time since 1986. Since 1979 the average has been 3,678. The peak was reached in 1994, when the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were at their most active.

I would like to begin posting my annual summary for each royal tomorrow, Sydney time but I am still waiting for the CC for the 31st December. I could make an assumption but I would prefer to be sure. If someone has that CC could they PM me or post it here. Many thanks.

I have finally got the information I need for the 31st December and so later today or tomorrow - when I have completed and double checked my summary for the year I will post it. There will be a number of posts as the royals with 200 or so engagements will take up a post on their own. I will try to do couples in the one post but it may not fit.

OK folks I am putting up my full summary. This will be in a series of posts but will give quite a bit of detail as to what each royal did.

These are figures that don't go into the individual analysis.
