A wonderful acknowledgement of a keen supporter and a man who has lead the way for many others - myself included - in 'counting' the royal engagements.

While in this post a note about this week's update.

I have all the information up to Wednesday (up on the British Monarchy Website) except for Thursday - which I would normally be able to access on Saturday my time but I suspect it will be next Wednesday before they do another update due to the Easter weekend.

Note about William's Overseas Engagement - he is spending Easter in Kenya as many of you have no doubt read and on his arrival there on Thursday he was officially received by the President of Kenya and hence an engagement overseas. He is obviously therefore visiting Kenya with the approval of HM.

Weekly update to 31st March, 2016

No update this week as there were no engagements for any member of the British Royal Family from the 25th - 31st March, 2016.

This is fairly normal unless there are royals overseas e.g. 2014 William and Kate were in Australia. Last year there were also no engagements in the week after the Maundy Thursday Service.

The Easter Sunday Church Service - like the Christmas Service is never included as an official engagement. We just get images of the royals going into and/or out of the church as they go to a private service of worship on the most important day of the Christian calendar.

Future Engagements for April as at 31st March

There will be an update to the Engagement count shortly for the Duke of Gloucester as he did undertake duties on the 31st. I will see what figures need to change before putting up a full entry or only a modified one for this week.

There will be no further updates from me due to the new website of the BRF. It is too clunky and from what I can see doesn't even have the CC on there although it says that it will be available but given how unusable the website it I won't be going back there.

I have enjoyed doing these updates each week but the new website has ended this analysis.

https://www.royal.uk/court-circular here is a direct link to the Court Circular part of the website, it seems to be part of its own mini media sub website. In fairness it looks as if the new design may make it easier to search for events on a certain day. Also here is some background on the Court Circular from the website https://www.royal.uk/court-circular-0

I agree about the scrolling, as there is no set layout it does make it impossible to find anything you might want rather than just browsing.

Thank you for finding it.

I have looked at it and found it strange that they are now lumping all the engagements for a person into one paragraph which I suppose is designed to be much harder to actually see what any royal is doing.

e.g.
The Duke of York this morning arrived at Beijing International Airport and was received by Her Majesty's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China (Her Excellency Ms. Barbara Woodward). His Royal Highness this afternoon held a Pitch@Palace Lunch at the Rosewood Hotel, Beijing. The Duke of York, Fellow, the Royal Society, later received Professor Bai Chunli (President, Chinese Academy of Sciences) at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing. His Royal Highness was afterwards received by The President of the People's Republic of China at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing.

Which is easier to read? The first or the second.

To me the second is way easier to read - but that is the way they used to do it while the first is the new way - harder to read and harder to find anything.

The old site used to list the engagements in order of importance in the family e.g. The Queen first but this one is in reverse with the Duke of Gloucseter coming before The Princess Royal who is now before the Duke of York, then the Duke of Cambridge and then the Prince of Wales - strange as most organisation put everything in order from highest to lowest in order of importance but this one is the other way round.

They also no longer separate husband and wives when they don't do engagements together. This is much harder to read and to find what an individual royal might be doing e.g. having to read through everything the Duke of Gloucester did to find something the Duchess did on the same day.

William, Kate and Harry are now all lumped in one paragraph as well rather than each new royal having their engagements start on a new line - very poorly put together.

I must ask - what are they trying to hard by going backwards in the structure of the site???

Madness!
Future engagements can now be launched in two ways.
https://www.royal.uk/future-engagements and http://www.royal.gov.uk/LatestNewsandDiary/Royaldiary/Locationsandtimes.aspx

If you go and look at them and look at the choices under the pull downs for "member of the Royal Family" it's crazy.
The royal.gov pulldown lists the full family.
The royal.uk puldown omits the POW, DuchessOCo, DOCa, Prince Harry, DOY, DuchessOCAa. They are not even a choice.
While I get that there may be security concerns, what's the point of future engagements with the public if you conceal them from the public? Nevermind that future engagements are listed haphazardly on social media and covered in the press.
And nevermind that this makes it clear that they are running/attending to two databases on this. Or that this makes it very clear (IMO) that these two offices are in conflict about how/what to make public.
Also, IMO it looks sad that the Queen's and the Heir can't bring their staff to heel on the issue. Or worse, that they themselves are in conflict over this. And that members of the family now look like they have chosen sides.
Again, just my opinion, but this does not look like an effective approach for a current of future head of state.
Edit - OK - I read more and the intent is to get rid of royal.gov (no date or time mentioned). On closer exam - I am not so sure which press office is in charge of this new site.
But I really dislike a lot about the new format. The search feature does seem better than the search feature on the old site. The scrolling is just irritating. A search of "styles and titles" was interesting. Ditto Cyphers. A search on Christmas was highly illuminating about the Queen's past broadcasts, but you would not know the family goes to Sandringham for the holiday. LOL - and off topic for here. But do go and look at it.

Many thanks for your years of work tallying the engagements ILuvBertie!:flowers:

Is there any way you would reconsider? Because it is really a great thing you've been doign!

I could not agree more - and believe many feel the same. Unselfishly, I want you to be happy. Selfishly, I hope you give it a shot. But I really appreciate you either way.

Interestingly - the old site has the 7th April up but the new site hasn't. I did a 'time check' to see how long each one took to load specific dates - the old was way faster - like a minute or more on each date. Then there is the quantity of information on the pages - the old had more engagements per page so less time having to wait for a new page to load.

I do have the information for this week which will go up later today but I doubt that I have either the time or patience when it takes minutes to load a page.

Sorry folks but I suspect it won't be possible (maybe that is one of the things the BRF want - they don't like seeing themselves tallied publicly each week - ok I am not that vain)

Let's hope they fix it fast because so far that site is a mess. It is still not officially released so might be that they are still testing stuff. But I doubt they could fix all the problems within a week. But it would be really sad to lose your tally because of that :( But I understand!

Weekly update to 7th April, 2016

A slow week due to the Easter break. Charles’ engagements were in Scotland suggesting that as usual he spent the Easter period up there with Camilla.

This may very well be the last update due to the new website. If they keep the old site with updates fine (they did update the old site overnight but not the new one) I can keep going but the new site is so unwieldy I won’t be bothering with trying to use it as it is so unfriendly for anyone wanting to find out anything.

FAILURE of British Monarchy Website to UPDATE CC

The weekly failure of the British Monarchy website: Depends on which site (old is missing the 31st March which is up on the new but the new site doesn’t have the 7th April even though it is up on the old site)

Missing dates from earlier in the year: 27th January (13 engagements)
