Weekly update to 13th November 2014

The Royal Family usually has a busy November and this one has been no different with over 250 engagements done in the first 2 weeks alone. They start to slow down again in mid-December for the Christmas break.

An interesting note – we all saw the reports that Harry went to Afghanistan for Remembrance Day but…there was no mention of that in the Court Circular. I know it is normal for these events not to be announced in advance but normally they do appear in the CC after the royal has safely returned home. If there is an addendum to the CC to take account of this event I will update the count but I only count what is in the CC and something not mentioned there doesn’t get any credit.

Weekly update to 13th November 2014

Another typical November week with around 120 engagements.

Interesting note for many people regarding investitures: in the UK Investitures are carried out by The Queen, Charles, William and Anne but when one of the royals visits overseas there is a good chance that they will carry out an investiture there and this past week has been no exception with Harry carrying out an investiture while overseas. This would probably be for some British person who ia permanently or temporarily living overseas and has earned some award that would be presented in the UK under normal circumstances. William did two while Down Under – one in Australia and one in NZ, while Andrew and Edward have also carried out investitures when overseas.

Unusually the Duke of Gloucester carried out an investiture in the UK on 13 May. Here is the item from the CC

The Duke of Gloucester, on behalf of The Queen, later held an Investiture at Oxford Register Office, 1 Tidmarsh Lane, Oxford.

V Unusual; I thought it might have been someone unable to get to London or Windsor.

Yes - that is true and I thought it strange at the time and like you assumed that it was someone who couldn't get to one of the normal investitures or someone who may have actually asked for the Duke personally to perform the ceremony - a friend or someone with whom he has worked or something like that.

I didn't realize that Tim Laurence was carrying out royal duties. That's wonderful! He has the perfect clout for military charities. He spent all those decades in the Navy, and now during his pension years he's willing to work for the Firm and go on royal tours. I am very impressed with this gentleman.

I think I listened to too many of those stupid tabloid articles that claimed he and Anne were living separate lives. So I assumed that they were like The Duke and Duchess of Kent. Very gullible of me.

Tim doesn't do any duties on his own but he does accompany Anne sometimes. He accompanied on her recent trip to Canada for instance, but he was only listed in the CC on a few occasions as actually being with her for the official duty - especially those over Remembrance Day.

He also accompanied her officially to the Rugby last week and to the Winter Olympics earlier this year.

As for their relationship - every time I have seen footage of them together they don't seem apart to me but very much a couple.

Weekly update to 20th November 2014

I think that the family are starting to slow down with only 92 this week. Beatrice did her 4th engagement for the year when she accompanied her father to the opening of the school and was officially listed in the CC. Andrew is still carrying duties overseas having moved from the Middle East to India.

Iluvbertie,
The 'Weekly update to' date is not matching the 'Days on which official engagements were undertaken to' date.

Thanks

Weekly update to 4th December 2014

There were only 70 engagements this week. Andrew was the busiest carrying out 21 this week. William and Kate will, of course, add to their totals this week with the trip to New York while most of the others will really start preparing for Christmas, with only 32 engagements listed for the rest of December for the entire family, although there are none listed for William or Kate or Andrew. Andrew’s events are rarely on the Future Engagements lists but interestingly more of Charles and Camilla’s are now appearing there.

Just a note - if anyone is adding up the total from this list and compares it to the total in the other post, they won't match. Why?

Because sometimes a royal engagement is listed as: 'xxxx visited yyyy and then toured the facility, viewed a performance and met the people who worked there.' That is counted as ONE engagement in the total of engagements but each 'type' is counted separated so there would be four entries in my total of 'type of engagements' even though it is only one engagement.

Weekly update to 11th December 2014

There were 94 engagements this week with William and Kate’s visit to the USA padding the normal number for this time of the year. Lots of ‘carol service’ type engagements also appearing. Anne and Sophie were also both overseas this week – Anne had two days at the IOC Sessions and Sophie made a one day trip to Germany to visit her regiment there.

That will be done next year and if I am able to do so I will work out the actual figures dating from his birthday when I am on school holidays in December.

William‘s figures are actually quite impressive, although he and Kate are hardly setting the pace for the family, a phrase so often used by the tabloids.

Weekly update to 18th December 2014

The family is definitely slowing down now with only 37 events this week. Quite a few did no engagements at all (Philip, Sophie, Richard, Birgitte and Edward – Duke of Kent) among those who normally appear regularly while others only did one or two. Charles was the busiest. I expect the remaining two weeks of the year to also be slow as well for official events – remembering that the Church service on Christmas Day isn’t an official engagement for any of the royals so although we will see them it won’t add to their tallies (certainly that has been the case in the past).

Weekly update to 25th December 2014

According to the CC the only day this week that engagements took place was the 22nd (nothing for the 19th, 20th, 21st, 23rd or 24th). They don’t undertake official engagements on the 25th even though they were all out and about at church and Zara had a lovely day in Sydney on the 26th (it was a fabulous day with the sun shining and the yachts looked spectacular as they started the race to Hobart). Only Charles, therefore has any changes. Thanks to Cepe - see below - I am able to add two more for Charles.

Thanks Cepe - I will update the post accordingly.

Here's the 23rd

Sorry Cepe - I think you had already sent me the 23rd - but it isn't up on the British monarchy website.

I will be doing my final tally for 2014 later today - assuming that there are no engagements on the 31st which, except for 2000, is normally spent quietly and nothing official.

No Court Circular for 30th - just checked the Times

I wonder, thinking very much in a very conspiratorial way, if the Royal Household have deliberately been lax in updating the Court Circular so they can say with all honesty, that the figures in the Daily Mail are wrong.

I dont think that the Royal Household would do that as it leaves them open to criticism. IT is wrong that it is not updated and the only other source of info has to be paid for. I subscribe to the Times which is why I can help out when a day goes "missing".

This is the first time that the Mail has done this off their own bat. MR O'Donovan writes to the Times every yr - letter due imminently. IT's his figures that they usually use.

Comparisons will be interesting

Weekly update to 31st December 2014

Unless there are engagements on the 31st December there will be not update of actual figures since the entry for the 25th December so I am just reposting the totals here.

When I get Mr O'Donovan's figures, in the next day or so - I will post a comparison of the figures to see how far I differ.

Thanks to Cepe who has made it possible to overcome the atrocious British Monarchy website updating of the CC. I contacted them about 6 or 7 times over this issue and only ever received a 'form reply' of 'thank you for your enquiry' but nothing specific about my issue with their site.

I am assuming that people would like me to do this again next year so if the mods are happy I will start a 2015 thread when I have an entry to put in it - probably next week or the week after knowing how early in the year engagements start.
