The points that need to be noted:

1. this was said by more than one police officer

2. the police knew why Charles and Camilla weren't there AND

3. people left there with the idea that Kate is refusing to work as that is what they are being told by the people who have the job of actually dealing with the public in a day to day role at the front of BP.

If the BRF cared about PR they would make sure that the police at the front of BP knew the reasons for things so that they can't speculate OR maybe they are telling the police the truth and the media has it wrong.

Not everyone reads the media releases from BP and they get their information from the police at the gates so these police need to have accurate information and their answers to questions about Kate were 'she has refused to attend these events' not from one officer but at least four to my certain knowledge from people I spoke to throughout the day.

It was a good try though lol
Personally, I enjoy tales from republicans even if the veracity of their claims are dubious at best.

It is great to see Duke of Kent, Prince Michael and Princess Alexandra making a public appearance alongside the Windsors.

Well, it sounds like those police officers are very unprofessional - they really shouldn't be speculating or commenting on such things unless they know what they're talking about. Having been at the Palace gates, though, I know the officers there can be a chatty bunch, to an extent that surprises me. However, I never heard any information that was blatantly false or speculative.

I'll leave it to reasonable people to decide for themselves but this sort of nonsense has been making the rounds on the less reputable blogs for weeks. So again how fortuitous that despite the palace issuing a statement as to why Kate wasn't attending, the day of the event multiple police officers spring into action to say Kate is 'refusing' to work and it just happens to be overheard by republican ears.

A fifth grader can write better fiction. I will say this, Kate must be viewed as an extreme threat to republicans to go to such lengths. Her 'republican slayer' down under tour to force is still smarting.

Well, I can't say I know what's been going on on the less reputable blogs (have stumbled upon those a time or two - eek), but some things don't quite add up here. The "refusing" thing does seem a bit odd, and the number of officers who apparently said it seems to be multiplying.

Either it is an amusing piece of fiction. Or the police officers felt bad that Philip didn't invite Catherine, so they spun a narrative to allow her to "save face". You don't really get fired if you were planning to quit the next day, right?

But often the correct answer is the least outlandish one.

So palace employees were going around telling visitors that Kate was refusing to work? Isn't that a no-no? I know that when I was working, it would have been highly unprofessional for me to slam my employer/boss to any guests that were visiting. Not to mention they were giving out false information.

I wonder too. I feel sorry for the photographer that was just trying to do his job.

We've known for over a week that Kate wouldn't be present, and it seems odd for a couple of police officers to know anything about what she refuses or not refuses. And many of these police officers are negative towards the monarchy. During the wedding in 2011, they went around and complained about the cost and that it was a waste of taxpayers money. I heard the same thing during the Diamond Jubilee. I have no idea how they knew about Charles and Camilla, but I choose not to believe them.

I thought Philip's outburst was rather rude as well, though sometimes when we're angry we tend to not think before we speak. It must have been a bit of a shock for the veterans - even though Philip is famous for his gaffes and slightly rude/funny (depending on how you look at it) comments, if I were one of the veterans I know I wouldn't have expected it! They just showed a clip of the incident on the BBC News, and William looked as if he was holding in laughter at his grandfather's outburst.

I agree that it's nice to see HM's cousins on the balcony, on a different note. Prince Michael looks so much like George V in these photos!

It seems that he did. They had to bleep it out on the News, which, even though I thought his remark was rude, to me was pretty funny since I wouldn't expect them to bleep out something a royal had said. But Philip will be Philip.

The picture of Prince Philip, second from the bottom, puts me in mind of Prince Andrew--that wide grin and the interested look.

Why was Princess Alexandra missing from the balcony?

She attended the events but was absent from the balcony.

I don't think William was amused but rather uncomfortable, actually. In the clip I saw William flashed more of a grimace than a smirk. Then his cheeks flushed like he was embarrassed. I've had the same awkward body language when my family has misbehaved in public.

She was on the balcony far out if I'm correct. Just that she isn't "interesting" for the photographers.....

Exactly. He was clearly blushing but continued to smile for the picture.... You know, "Keep calm and carry on".

She was standing next to Prince Michael. At first I thought she was Princess Michael because she was hiding under such a large hat, but then I got a better look at her face.

Edward obviously found it funny as you can hear him laugh quite heartily after Philip speaks. I reckon the family are used to his antics, even if they are not always 100% appropriate.

Don't we all have that older relative that says blunt, embarrassing things we can't help but to laugh at even if we know we shouldn't?! For instance my great-grandmother was spurting oneliners like a machine gun that time my aunt brought her new black boyfriend to Easter dinner...

Yeah, laughing doesn't mean you ACTUALLY think it's funny. It's like laughing when someone falls. You don't ACTUALLY think the thing is funny, it is the shock value that triggers the laughter.
