Sultan of Kedah walks to witness the Football Match

This was a really regretful news to know that His Royal Highness Sultan of Kedah had to walk 2km!!! for 45 minutes to the Stadium at Penang to watch FA cup football match. HRH is now 80 years old!.

The Crown Prince of Perlis had to be given a motorbike ride by a policeman to proceed to the stadium after the Royal car was stranded in that terrible traffic jam.

This happened because of the terrible traffic congestion due to the stupidity of some football fans who simply parked their cars wherever they liked, forcing the Royal guests to abandon their official cars on the road.

The Sultan gave away the cup to his winning state after the match.

(In Malay version only)

Later chief minister of Penang offered his apology to the Sultan of Kedah and Crown Prince of Perlis for what had occurred yesterday.

King's Coronation

Someone previously mentioned that the Coronation of the King will be televised on National Geographic or somthing similar. Is there any confirmation of this? Or has this passed and I have missed it?

I think Ephram is the one who mention it. If I'm not mistaken, it'll we be aired in the end of the year...

Just wait and see when and how it will be aired (entire ceremony, portions of it?) at the end of this year, I think the government will inform when it will be aired or we may keep in touch with National Geographic website for that.

Today in History: Election of the First Yang di-Pertuan Agong

Today 50 years ago exactly on 3 August 1957, in the 3rd meeting of the Conference of Malay Rulers, the first King of Malaysia was elected.

He was the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Sir Abdul Rahman ibni Tuanku Muhammad. The Deputy of the King was also elected and he was the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sir Hisamuddin Alam Shah ibni Sultan Alauddin Sulaiman Shah.

The election was made by all the 9 Malay Rulers except the Sultan of Johor who sent his Crown Prince. This meeting was held a couple of weeks before Malaysia (then Malaya) proclaimed the Independence on 31 August 1957.

Yes, we finally got a confirmed answer from newspaper Utusan Malaysia yesterday 20 August 2007 printed version.

Director of Malaysia National Film Development (FINAS) announced that the Installation Ceremony for the 13th King of Malaysia will be aired by National Geographic Channel (NGC) in an exclusive documentary titled Becoming A King on 27th of August 2007 at 10.00pm (Malaysian time). It will be even earlier than what we were told last time.

The director further commented the documentary that costs RM700,000 will show the process of the Ceremony. The duration is for 47 minutes. It is expected that this will be watched by 1 billion viewers as curently NGC has 250 million household viewers.

For people in Malaysia I believe it is possible to tune in to ASTRO Channel 52

Astro :: Making Your Life Richer

It will be in English so no problem for everyone to comprehend. Simply can't wait to watch it....

Hi banda_windsor, in Malaysia it was aired last Monday night 27 August in National Geographic Channel. I believe the timing of the airing might differ but the same NGC will air the documentary all over the world. You may check the local listing in Indonesia.

50 Years of Malaysian Independence

It has been confirmed that HRH Prince Andrew The Duke of York shall be here to join the grand jubilee celebration of 50th Anniversary of Independence of Malaysia (MERDEKA!) on the 31st of August this Friday. It will be the most awaited and memorable occassion for all Malaysians since there has never been such grand celebration like this. My office is just few metres from the Independence Square, Kuala Lumpur the venue for the celebration. Traffic congestions are everywhere in the morning as rehearsals are being done since last week. We can see and hear many combat and fighter aircrafts are roaming, roaring and thundering the sky of the capital for the flypast rehearsal.

The most special for royalwatchers this Friday, we all will see three Royals on the VVIPs stage to receive the salute from the parade: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, The Raja Permaisuri Agong and The Duke of York as well as many other minor Royals of Terengganu Royal Family shall be present.

Later on that day, The Duke of York will be invited by the King and Queen to attend the Tea Party at the National Palace. This would really reinstate the day 50 years ago where the then Duke of Gloucester the late Prince Henry attended the Proclamation of Independence and the tea at the Palace.

The Duke of York begins the Malaysian visit today by visiting the Sultan and Sultanah of Johor.

Just 1 day left.

50 Years of Malaysian Independence

On the 31st of August 2007, the 50th Anniversary of Malaysian Independence Parade at Independence Square in Kuala Lumpur for the first time since 1957 was graced by the presence of many foreign VVIPs. Among the Royal guests and VVIPs:

1. His Majesty The Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
2. Her Majesty The Raja Permaisuri Agong.
3. His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, The Duke of York representing Her Majesty The Queen.
4. His Majesty The Sultan of Brunei.
5. His Royal Highness Maha Vajiralongkorn, The Crown Prince of Thailand.
6. Princess Mom Srirasmi (does she have HRH style?)
7. His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffrey, The Governor General and representative of the Queen of Australia.
8. His Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, The President of The Phillippines.
9. His Excellency Vice President of Indonesia and Madam Mufidah Kalla.
10. The Hon. Prime Minister of Singapore and Mrs. Lee.
11.The Hon. Prime Minister of Thailand and Mrs. Chulanont.
12. The Hon. Prime Minister of Vietnam.
13. The Hon. Prime Minister of Cambodia.
14. The Hon. Prime Minister of Laos.
15. The Hon. Deputy Prime Minister of The Netherlands.

And I saw many many other notable guests. The parade was not as long as in the past years as to accommodate those many VVIPs' arrival and departure. There were too many VIPs tents this year making the venue too crowded but it was indeed a memorable experience.

Merdeka! (Freedeom!)
MALAYSIAKU GEMILANG (My glorious Malaysia).

Once again, a big thank you to Ephram for bringing us pictorial coverage of the celebrations. Much appreciated! :flowers:

Any news of the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah?

As he is still studying in secondary level, I think he doesn't carry much royal duties at the moment. But sometimes we can see him accompanying his father to certain occassions.

Is he in Malaysia, or is he out of the country? I hear he goes to a boarding school in England....Any recent pictures?

Of Clause, she have the HRH style. And her full title is H.R.H. Princess Srirasm, the Royal Consort of H.R.H. Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn. His Majesty King Bhumibol granted HRH to her on June 15, 2005

Thank you, iparity. I was just a little curious because last time I read somewhere that she has yet to be elevated to the status of Crown Princess, but now that I know from your information. During the Independence Parade, her name was not announced along with the Crown Prince's name, that was why I wonder about her status as Consort.
Anyway, Thank you once again.

because last time I read somewhere that she has yet to be elevated to the status of Crown Princess

It may be the misunderstanding of the writer.. Since the Kingdom of Thailand has no title of "Crown Princess" even the wife of the Crown Prince is not the Crown Princess but the Consort

Sometimes, many international press also mentioned Princess Siridhron, the 2nd duaghter of HM King Bhumibol, as Crown Princess. But she is actually H.R.H. Maha Chakri Siridhorn (Maha = Great)

Anyway, Thanks for your attention on Thailand Royal Family...
