The Sultan of Terengganu, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, who ended his term as the 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday, has recorded a string of sterling achievements.Tuanku Mizan was the first Muslim head of state to step foot on Antarctica last month after His Majesty made a five-day working visit to the research station at Scott Base located in the southernmost continent on Nov 20 to 24.

Tuanku Mizan, 49, as the Supreme Commander of the Malaysian Armed Forces was also the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong to take a flight in a fighter jet, the Sukhoi SU-30MKM at supersonic speed which was faster than the speed of sound, for about 45 minutes over Pulau Langkawi and Penang, where he visited the Royal Malaysian Air Force base in Butterworth on Feb 7, this year.
On March 10, His Majesty went into KD Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia’s first submarine, which made a maximum depth dive for an operation in the South China Sea, as well as carrying out simulation fire on targets from the Scorpene submarine.

Sultan revives old royal attire - Johor - New Straits Times
HRH Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar of Johor made a striking appearance at the Proclamation Ceremony of the 14th Yang DiPertuan Agong on Dec 13.
He was resplendent in an attire which many assumed to be newly designed for the occasion. The attire reflected history.
Sultan Ibrahim has a penchant for reviving royal court traditions inherited from the temenggong, from governance to diplomacy and from the art of dressing to protocol.
He has confirmed royal blue as the sovereign's colour.
In his wisdom, Maharaja Abu Bakar in 1871 chose the colour to denote the universe, reflecting his faith in Islam and his subservience to Allah.

The Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullaul has called upon university students to stay away from extremist movements which are damaging and do not reflect the Malaysian culture.
Speaking at the ceremony of his appointment as Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) at Istana Arau here on January 3rd, 2012, he advised students to refrain from using alternative media or social networks to influence people in haste.

Police told to answer to $61m suit filed by Kelantan prince
The High Court has directed the police to answer to a RM150mil (S$61mil) wrongful confinement claim filed by Kelantan prince Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra against them. It was for allegedly stopping him from sending a Bentley Brooklands car to his father in Singapore.(see post # 286)

In his statement of claim filed last month, the prince said he had been requested by his father, the then-Kelantan Ruler, Sultan Ismail Petra, on Aug 30, 2009, to send a Bentley Brooklands car to Singapore where he was seeking medical treatment.
He said as he was driving towards the gate at Istana Mahkota Kubang Kerian, accompanied by his lawyer Datuk Mohd Haaziq Pillay, he was stopped by the police.
Tengku Muhammad Fakhry claimed that there were 20 to 30 policemen outside the palace gate to stop him from leaving the compound with the car, adding that he would show a video recording of it during the trial.
He claimed ASP Norazman had prevented him from leaving the palace based on instructions from Abdul Rahim and the police.
He is seeking RM100mil in general damages, RM50mil in aggravated and exemplary damages, interests, costs and any relief deemed fit by the court.

Sultan of Johor's son completes police training
The fourth child of the Sultan of Johor was among 960 inspector trainees who completed their training at the Police Training College.
Tunku (Prince) Abdul Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim led the passing-out ceremony, watched by his father, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
The 21-year-old said he felt honoured to be part of the training.
He is also the first in the family to join the police force while three of his older siblings are in the army.

The Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, wants the state government to continue channelling assistance to the poor.
In his speech in conjunction with his 84th birthday on January 15th, 2012, he said, various forms of assistance can be extended to this group in collaboration with the Welfare Department, Tithe Department and corporate companies.
His text of speech was read out by chairman of the Sultan of Kedah Council of Regency, Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah.

The 228th Conference of Rulers was held yesterday and Wednesday 22-23 February 2012 at the new palace Istana Negara, Jalan Duta. This time it was chaired by the Sultan of Selangor. The Yang DiPertuan Agong XIV Tuanku Abdul Halim attended.

Installation of new king on April 11, public holiday declared
The Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, is to be installed as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on April 11, and the date, a Wednesday, will be a national public holiday.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan said two main events would be held on that date - the installation ceremony in the morning and the royal banquet at night, both at the Istana Negara.
He said the declaration of the public holiday is made under Section 8 of the Holidays Act 1951 for peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
"Sabah and Sarawak will do the necessary in accordance with their respective state laws," he said in a statement.
