King, Queen Attend Trooping Of Colours Ceremony

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 (Bernama) -- The Yang di- Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail, and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid, Saturday attended a Trooping of the Colours and a Band Performance by the Malaysian Armed Forces at Dataran Merdeka here in conjunction with the King's 62nd official birthday celebration.

The ceremony symbolises a pledge of loyalty by the Malaysian armed forces to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

Soon after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong arrived at Dataran Merdeka at 8am, the Central Band of the Armed Forces comprising an officer and 92 personnel played the "Negaraku" national anthem.

This was followed by the "Royal Salute" march-past accompanied by the firing of a 21-gun salute and a flypast by five armed forces helicopters bearing the flags of Malaysia, the Armed Forces, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong then inspected a guard-of-honour mounted by 20 officers and 507 personnel from the three services of the armed forces, accompanied by Chief of the Armed Forces Laksamana Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor and parade commander Leftenan Kolonel Mustapha Omar.

The Central Band then delivered its performance. This was followed by the Trooping of the Colours and the playing of the national anthem. The officers and personnel of the parade shouted "Daulat Tuanku" and gave the "Royal Salute" as five armed forces helicopters did a flypast.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and their wives also attended the ceremony.-- BERNAMA

More news on the Birthday of King of Malaysia from local newspaper today

News courtesy of The Star:
Thousands swarm to watch grand parade

KUALA LUMPUR: The thousands who flocked to Dataran Merdeka to watch the grand parade and trooping the colours to mark the 62nd birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail made it a glorious and vibrant event.

Malaysians as well as tourists turned the event into a family outing, with many coming to the popular square early to get a strategic spot for a glimpse of the King and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid.

The royal couple, escorted by a motorcade, arrived at the historical Sultan Abdul Samad building at 8am and a 92-member armed forces band immediately struck up the Negaraku.

This was followed by the royal salute march-past and a 21-gun salute and fly-past by five armed forces helicopters bearing the Jalur Gemilang as well as the flags of the three components of the armed forces – the army, navy and air force. The King, accompanied by armed forces chief Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor and parade commander Lt Kol Mustapha Omar, then inspected a guard-of-honour mounted by 20 officers and 507 staff from the armed forces.

The band then played By Land and Sea and Glorious Victory. This was followed by trooping the colours and the King's royal standard. The national anthem was played again, followed by three cheers of Daulat Tuanku!

The hour-long ceremony, which symbolises a pledge of loyalty by the Malaysian armed forces to the King, who is their supreme commander, ended with another round of the royal salute and fly-past by the helicopters.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, as well as their wives, were present. Also at the event were Cabinet members, foreign diplomats, senior government officials and corporate heads.

Later in the afternoon, the King and Queen attended a tea reception in the grounds of the Istana Negara.

Abdullah and Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood accompanied their majesties. Najib, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor were also among the 5,000 guests who attended the function.

It seems an unusual arrangement to me... How did it come to pass that the King of Malaysia represents Queen Elizabeth II at the military parade? BTW, is it a private or an official visit?

It was reported by the media here that it was a working visit. If you notice actually many foreign royals were invited every year to represent Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Sandhurst Annual Sovereign Parade. As far as I can remember Sultan of Brunei and King Abdullah of Jordan were once represented Her Majesty in the parade. They were all including King Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin educated in Sandhurst.
