Here's a section that would be of interest to Ephram. It is about the royal palaces of the various monarchs of the Malaysian states & the Singaporean royal palace.I know about the palace of the Rajahs of Sarawak in Kuching, which is now the official residence of the federally-appointed Governor of Sarawak.

Despite the fact that Singapore has been a British Commonwealth republic since 1965,the descendants of the Singaporean Sultan were living in the royal palace there until a few years ago.

From the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's official website here is the page on the Istana Negara, aka the National Palace.
Scroll down for pics of the throne(s) and various rooms.

Wow! Another forum for Malay Royals. We'd be so glad to participate in the forum focusing on their Palaces. Many Royals mean many palaces have to be built.

Istana Negara the palace which is highlighted by Warren above is the official residence for the King of Malaysia. However by 2009, there'll be a new and grander Palace to replace the present one. The status for the present one shall be determined later upon the completion of the new one.

New, bigger Istana Negara

Meanwhile have a look at another King's palace for retreat located in the administrative capital of Putrajaya.

We all know about the Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur, but what about the palaces in the states themselves, such as the ones in Trengganu & Johore, for example?

Anyone able to post pics of the ceremonial troops guarding these palaces?

Ephram has very kindly posted some of his own pics in this post, which include the ceremonial guards outside the palace in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia's new Agong

Next month promises to be an eventful month for the monarchy in Malaysia.

For royal watchers, Malaysia will install the new Agong, who happens to be the Sultan of Kedah. The Sultan had also reigned as Agong during the seventies and is popular among locals.

The ceremony will take place at the brand new Istana (National Palace) in Kuala Lumpur with live telecasts.

Click here for images of the new national palace during construction and some of the state rooms. Some lawmakers were fuming that the cost of the palace had exceed budget by 100%. The budget was RM400M but the actual price tag was RM800M but that is another story.

Few pictures of the old palace Istana Negara during the Eid el Fitr reception in 2011. Please don't delete these photos as I snapped them myself. It is a great pity that this palace has been abandoned and it's function will be switched. However, it has been proclaimed as one of Malaysia's National Heritage.

There was a wonderful news just came in a few days ago saying that the old palace Istana Negara at Jalan Istana has been designated as a Royal Museum. Several rooms which were previously inaccessible to the public will be opened for public viewing starting 1 February 2013. This is a must-see destination in Kuala Lumpur. Hopefully the Royal Regalia exhibition will still be there as well.
