AsI understand it, there is a now popular pressure 9including marches/ demonstrations) for the greenhouses and the broader private park of Laeken to be permanently open to the public. Thankfully, the greenhouses and the park are owned by the Royal Donation Trust, which is nominally independent of the Belgian government, and therefore less prone to political pressure.

Oh my goodness, what a beautiful place, all those flowers, what joy to just be there and see and smell those roses. Yep, I love flowers, gardens are pure delight for me. Thanks for the pictures .....?
 
I visited it last year, it is wonderful indeed. The glasshouses are enormous btw, there are many of them, all linked by corridors -some under ground- with flowers as well. You also pass Queen Elisabeth's atelier, where she made her bustes. One of them was of BKS Iyengar, who tought the Queen to stand on her head at the age of 80.

Thanks for the info Marengo, that must be like heaven. I have always loved Lilacs and Tulips and Lily of the Valley the best. My aunt who had a farmstead at one time when she was alive had over 40 rose bushes, growing all in front of her home, just gorgeous. Flowers are a passion of mine when I had a place to grow them in another lifetime....now I buy them. :lol:

Thank you Cyril for the video, I really enjoyed it for I love flowers, so give me a comfy chair, a book, my needlework and of course hot tea and I would spend the day there amongst the flowers all the wonderful smells that come about..Just beautiful!?

Last year they put a display of miniature smurfs somewhere between the plants. Not what you would expect in the Royal Greenhouses but I suppose they must have a gardener with an interesting sense of humor.

When I visited House ten Bosch in The Hague the temporary opening had a fully functioning gift shop, with over priced but good looking presents. The greenhouses were not commercialized in that sense: they were collecting money for the red cross and only sold gardening necessities. And as can be expected in Belgium: the restaurant was excellent, as was the service.
 
Its a busy time of the year for the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken and they are so well maintained.

They are indeed beautiful, but not so amazing considering that the money to build them came from the exploitation of the native peoples of the Congo, didn’t it ?

Surely, but we can definitely say the same for any other building built by colonizing monarchies.

Saturday it is Le grand Départ of the Tour de France in Brussels. The arrival of the first etappe will be right in front of Laeken Castle.
In the evening Flemish TV show Vive le Vélo will air from the gardens of Laeken.

Wow, I envy them. I have only been able to see parts, and for the most part from afar, on my visits to the Greenhouses.

Have these walks been held like this already for a long time?
 
The greenhouses are enormous and are stunning inside.
 
Last year due to COVID only parts of the serres were to be visited, mainly the larger areas. They did offer a longer walk in the garden as a compensation. I assume that this year things will be back to normal.
