Default Illegal Polish & French Workers Repairing the Royal Palace in Brussels?

Newspapers De Standaard and Het Laatste Nieuws has an article about the people who repaired the roof of the royal palace on friday. Two Polish and one French illigal worker have been caught by the inspection service.

Article in Dutch here.

One part of the roof was repaired by 3 workers from a Flemish company; all three were from Poland, one had a permit but the other two had not. The other part of the roof was repaired by a company from Wallonia. Two workers were Belgian, the third a frenchman and his permit could not be found either.

The Flemish company Six, from Izegem, denies that the Polish workers are working for them illigaly though. Benjamin Six denies the accusations of the inspection service and says that the permits were in order. The Walloon company says that the french worker was a 'jobstudent'.

An article about that here.

They said on VRT news that the Wallonian company tried to get the Frenchman registered that very afternoon...

Important to note: the companies were hired by the Belgian government, not by the Royal family. The Brussels Palace is governement property, and they have a special division "Regie der Gebouwen" (don't know in French sorry) which should maintain the buildings and pay for repairs.

Still... couldn't believe it when I heard it

It is very curious indeed, esp. as you would expect illigal workers everywhere except here probably.

Anyway, the works on the roof have been stopped untill the 'Regie der Gebouwen' has solved the mess, now let's hope it isn't leking in the kings bedroom .
