Solliden Palace, Öland

:previous: I suppose more logical is to inherit Victoria. But i don't understad why make her own summer house there?

Because Solliden Palace isn't very big. I have read from Svensk Damtidning that the Palace consists of three floors. The ground floor consists of household premises. The second floor consists of an entrance hall, salon, dining room and a guest room. A staircase leads up from the entrance hall to the third floor, there is a bedroom, salon and one room. In the attic there are some additional smaller rooms. Before Victoria and Daniel didn't have their own house there, they stayed at Kavaljershuset, where Madeleine and her family, Carl Philip and Sofia and the guests of the royal family are now staying in the summer. Kavaljershuset is about 500 square meters and has three floors. According to swedish press, the king and queen are also staying at Kavaljershuset, if they are in Solliden in the winter.
Victoria and Daniel clearly like to spend a lot of time in Solliden and perhaps the Palace is nowadays quite uncomfortable for a family. Maybe they were thinking that the king and queen can spend at least 10-15 years there in the future, so they built their own, new house to be able to enjoy their time in Solliden. The Kavaljershuset will also be quite crowded, if Carl Philip and Sofia will have some children and Madeleine and Chris will have more children.

And because the Palace Park is from 16th May until 15th September open for public from 11.00 to 18.00, the royal family normally isn't according to the press at the Palace at that time, they are at the boat house, or Kavaljershuset. But Victoria, Daniel and Estelle can be at their own summer house.

Good points. :flowers: It's a question why every royal hasn't built their own house, given the above.

Maybe they don't want to put their money to a new house where they would spend only some weeks in a year. Carl Philip and Sofia spend a lot of time at Carl Philip's summer house in Ökenäs, it is only about an hour away from Stockholm. And he has a cottage in Sunne. Madeleine and Chris are living abroad and have at least before having children liked to travel in Europe meeting their friends.
Victoria and Daniel have told that they want to go to Solliden as often as it is possible. They spend some days a year with Daniel's family at the little summer house in Acktjära, which Olle Westling built in 2006 beside his summer house.

Leo Eriksson, the Director of Administration of Solliden, told to Svensk Damtidning some weeks ago, that the king and queen have been very involved with the renovations made to the Palace during the years. As soon one shows the technical drawing to the king, he sees the big picture. And the queen as eye to technical solutions. The king and queen want to keep the Palace intact and very easy and modest, there isn't any luxury in it. When the staff of the kitchen at Drottningholm Palace arrives to Solliden, they are staying at so called drivers' house. Eriksson tells also that the royal children still have their rooms at the Palace, although they are not staying there. He has never seen a TV at the Palace, or at any of the guest houses at the Palace area. While the Palace park is open for public, the family is staying at the boat house, Kavaljershuset or Victoria's and Daniel's summer house. There is a big table at the boat house, it can take thirty people.
Eriksson tells that Estelle and Leonore are playing at the old playhouse of the Haga princesses and that there is already a secret path which is planned to be named after the children of Carl Philip and Sofia. There are already prinsessan Estelles promenad (princess Estelle's promenade) and prinsessan Leonores promenad from Solliden to Borgholm. Eriksson thinks that it is great that Victoria and Daniel have chosen to establish themselves to the Solliden estate, and he hopes that Carl Philip and Sofia will do that too.

Svensk Damtidning writes that the Palace is about 400 square meters. It is white outside but not so light at the inside at all with a lot of dark wood used at the Palace.

Do those apples go to Royal kitchens and/or get sold to visitors ?

Solliden Palace launched on Thursday a new website:
Sollidens Slott

There is also some information in english and german.

At "vanliga frågor" (common questions) they answer to many questions regarding the Palace and visiting the park, such as:
Is the King at home today?
We lift a royal flag in front of the Palace when the King or the Crown Princess is in Solliden.
Can you take photos in the park?
Yes, please do! Please use #sollidensslott on Instagram if you have a smartphone or tablet.
Can you see the Palace from the inside?
No, because Solliden Palace is a private residence, it is not possible.
Can you see the Crown Princess Couple's new house?
No, it is located at a private part of Solliden.
Why do you close the gates earlier than the appointed time?
To walk around the park takes about 45 minutes. We close the entrance one hour before closing so that everyone will get out of the park before we lock for the day.
