After receiving the Polar Music Prize from King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden in Stockholm on Thursday (June 14), Metallica has donated its monetary award of one million Swedish Kroner (just over $130,000) to three charities.
The band is giving 50 percent of their prize money to the Stockholm City Mission, which supports the homeless;
25 percent to the World Childhood Foundation, founded by Sweden’s Queen Silvia;
and 25 percent to the Afghanistan National Institute of Music, also a recipient of this year’s Polar Music Prize.
Metallica was one of this year’s Laureates, along with Dr. Ahmad Sarmast and ANIM, the music school he founded in 2010 in response to that country’s civil war and destruction of centuries of rich musical tradition.

The Polar Music Prize 2019 is awarded to the German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, known as ’the Queen of the Violin’.
The Polar Music Prize 2019 is awarded to The Playing For Change Foundation dedicated to providing music and arts education to underprivileged children around the world.

King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden will present the 2019 awards at a ceremony and banquet at Stockholm’s Grand Hôtel on 11 June.

A stellar constellation of Swedish and international artists will honour the Polar Music Prize Laureates at the Polar Music Prize ceremony on June 11. The prize ceremony takes place at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm and will be broadcast live on TV4 Play.
The citations will be read by DJ Maseo from De La Soul, Polar Music Prize Laureate of 2018 Dr Ahmad Sarmast, and Frank Briegmann, CEO at the iconic Deutsche Grammophon label.
A spectacular line-up of artists and musicians will celebrate the Laureates at the banquet: Mapei, Danny Saucedo, Adam ”ADL” Baptiste, Esther Kirabo, Stran, DJ Eka Scratch, Migdal Strings, Cherrie & Jelassi, Cecilia Zilliacusand students from Lilla Akademien. Choreographer Ambra Succi together with Damon Frost and DJ Chezawill also bring 25 dancers, The Extended Family, to Grand Hôtel’s Vinterträdgården for a stunning performance especially created for this occasion.
Mezzo-soprano and journalist Boel Adlerwill be our host for the evening.

So, wow. Earlier today I gave a longer interview with a large newspaper in Finland about Crown Princess Victoria, her role - and her style. Then I had no idea that she would totally reign at the Polar Prize in 2019 a few hours later…
Yes, just like my phenomenal colleague Emilia, so she matched the pink carpet - wow! And like Emilia, the Crown Princess chose the star shot Selam Fessahaye! So fun after all!
Yes, you see, there were two queens on the pink carpet. Wonderfully neat, glamorous and cool, Emilia. And the Crown Princess. Don't know what I love most with the crown princess dress but I think ... In fact, that it is unpredicted.
Simply put, she, along with the brilliant stylist Tina Törnqvist, constantly continues to surprise. If I had been guessing the look tonight, I would hardly have thought "Hmm, she surely drives a pink tulle caramel with extra everything?": Love it.

The 29th Polar Music Prize ceremony and banquet will take place at Stockholm’s Grand Hôtel on Tuesday June 9. 2020 Polar Music Prize Laureates Diane Warren and Anna Netrebko will be honoured at the re-arranged ceremony on May 22, 2021.
This year’s Polar Music Prize ceremony, honouring Laureates Diane Warren and Anna Netrebko, is postponed due to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Originally planned for June 9, 2020, the Polar Music Prize award ceremony and banquet will now take place on Saturday May 22, 2021 in Stockholm.
Marie Ledin, managing director of the Polar Music Prize, said: “The most important consideration for us, and the top priority, is the safety and wellbeing of the Polar Music Prize Laureates, the Swedish Royal Family, artists, musicians, guests and all the staff involved. We look forward to an extra special event in 2021.”

The Polar Music Prize Board has decided to cancel this year’s Polar Music Prize ceremony. Prize winners for 2022 will be announced in February next year, and the prize ceremony will be held on May 24th, 2022.
With the COVID-19 virus still engendering a global health crisis, the Polar Music Prize Board has decided to cancel this year’s Polar Music Prize award ceremony, which was to take place on May 22. “The safety of everyone attending the Polar Music Prize ceremony is our top priority,” said Marie Ledin, Managing Director of the Prize. “Our 2020 Laureates, Diane Warren and Anna Netrebko, will be honored on various occasions throughout this year and we will announce details soon.”
The Laureates of the 2022 Polar Music Prize will be announced in February 2022, and the prize ceremony and subsequent banquet will take place on May 24 next year.

Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records, one of the UK’s greatest independent record labels,
and Estonian Arvo Pärt, the world’s most performed living composer,
are announced today as the recipients of the 2023 Polar Music Prize. The Polar Music Prize ceremony will take place on Tuesday 23 May in Stockholm at the Grand Hôtel. Watch the live broadcast in Sweden on TV4, or globally via YouTube, from 6pm (CET).
The prize is presented in Stockholm in the presence of the Swedish Royal Family. Each Laureate will receive prize money of 600,000 Swedish Kroner (approx. £47,681/US $57,384).

Victoria stole the show – shone in Swedish design
All eyes were drawn to Crown Princess Victoria, who lit up in neon yellow on the red carpet before the Polar Prize.
The Crown Princess chose, as so often, Swedish design – and budget. Victoria often wears Swedish design, and not infrequently from the clothing giant H&M. This particular dress has previously been sold in a polka dot pattern. It came last year and cost SEK 4,000.

A pity that Laureate Arvo Pärt couldn't come to Sweden, but it is quite understandable, he is 87 years old.
This is one of the highlights of the year, to see the Laureates and hear their music played.
