''THE PRINCESS's PROMISE
Oriflame is a co-founder of the World Childhood Foundation, founded by HM Queen Silvia in 1999 to support vulnerable children. Childhood supports projects both locally and around the world and works globally for children's right to a safe and loving childhood. Childhood currently supports over 100 projects in 16 countries around the world. We met up HRH Princess Madeleine, Honorary Director of The World Childhood Foundation to talk about her hopes, dreams, her childhood and her work with the World Childhood Foundation.
Childhood is defined as "the age between birth and adolescence." What does Princess Madeleine think that children need most during this important period of development?
Children need more than shelter and food - they need love, guidance and the opportunity to grow up without fear or instability in their lives. Unfortunately, many children in the world are victims of abuse and exploitation, making it difficult for them to experience a safe and happy childhood.
How does the World Childhood Foundation, meet these basic needs for children around the world?
At the World Childhood Foundation, we believe that all children have the right to a childhood, to security, happiness, playfulness and curiosity about life. We support over 100 projects around the world that help children at risk, or who have been abused, children who receive alternative care, street children and families at risk. Childhood supports not only the project financially, but also through strategic capacity building and networking opportunities. We promote cooperation, knowledge transfer and help to improve and promote efforts in a cost effective and qualitatively effective way to support children in need.
"Every child deserves to feel loved."
At Oriflame, we share a desire to support and empower children, to give them a chance to dream. Does Princess Madeleine feel that this is consistent with World Childhood Foundation's work?
I respect the work that Oriflame is doing to support and empower children. As a founder of the World Childhood Foundation, they have worked closely with us over the last 15 years, and has collected close to 2 million euros. This initiative demonstrates the company's clear commitment to help children to fulfill their dreams by getting a better childhood. All children should have the opportunity to dream, and the ability to pursue those dreams.
"Together, we can ensure that all children have happy memories of their childhood."
What would Princess Madeleine like to see the World Childhood Foundation develop into in the future?
I hope we can continue to grow as an organization so that we can help more children in the world. Abuse and exploitation of children occurs in every society in the world. I would like that everyone understands how they can help protect the children in their own lives, and to support organizations that help children in other communities. That's why I created ThankYou by Childhood campaign - so that people will remember the happy moments in their own childhood, and say thank you to the people who made those moments possible. Together, we can ensure that all children have happy memories of their childhood.''
