I saw the photo of Victoria laughting. But in this one everyone looks so serious, look at Göran Persson for example. it seems odd that everyone else is so serious while the queen is laughting to tears...

Victoria and Carl-Philip are looking very good today (although CP seems bored). Why is CP sitting apart from his sister? And why is Victoria sitting between empty seats in some pictures? Doesn't the royal family enter last, as they are the most important?

The empty seats might be because the primeminister was up speaking on the "stage" (what is the correct word for talarstol or what its called in swedish?) or something like that.

wonderful photos. thanks so much to everyone who posted. Victoria looked beautiful!

Didnt Lilian wear that outfit to a previous opening of parliament. The Bernadottes' penchant for recycling clothes is well documted. but the same outfit to the same event???

No gala, but a concert was held at the Concert Hall in the evening. Haven't seen any pics from that yet though...

Princess Lilian has worn this outfit to the Opening of Parliament for many years, I think it's her traditional outfit for this occasion. I haven't seen her wearing it at other occasions.

Oh! ok, well that is actually kind of cool. a special outfit to wear only once a year. and it is lovely. the velvet is so regal. thanks for explaining this to me.

it's so funny looking at her now to think she was born a regular british girl.

On the evening of the day of the Opening of Parliament, the King and Queen together with the Crown Princess and Princess Lilian attended a concert on the occasion at the Concert Hall, where they listened to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Pictures from NewsCom.

No it's not, but maybe they will make it a new tradition for the years to come. So far, the only tradition in connection to the Opening of Parliament is the Church Service held in the Stockholm Cathedral before the ceremony at the Parliament.

This was the third year there has been some kind of musical thing on the evening of the Opening of Parliament, so I'm guessing they will make it a tradition. But we can't be sure yet. The two previous years they have gone to the Royal Opera, and this year it was the Concert Hall.
