Congratulations! Great to hear he'll recieve the Nobel prize. He really deserves that. He already won the "Bundesverdienstkreuz" and the "Robert Koch Prize" for his discovery.

 THUMP UP!!!
It's great that Harald zur Hausen recieves the Nobel Prize! He's from Heidelberg like Queen Silvia! So I think is't sure who is sitting next to the Queen at the table of honour!
Only two month to go and there will be this wonderful ceremony in Stockholm.
I think this is the highlight of the year! Unfortunately Princess Lilian can't attend this ceremony any more. It's a pitty. It was so nice to see the whole royal family attending this event!

Can't wait to pics and coverage of the actual ceremonies. These events aren't just a "big deal" in Europe but worldwide. I think one can say they have reached the pinnacle of life being the receiptent of a Nobel Prize.

The Award Ceremonies in Oslo and Stockholm and the Stockholm banquet take place every year on December 10th, the anniversary of Nobel's death.
On December 11, the annual 'Day After' gala dinner for the Nobel prize winners is held in Stockholm Palace.

It seems so! On the HP of the swedish royal family it is said:
"Wednesday 10 Dec
Attendance at the presentation of the Nobel Prizes and banquet, Stockholm Concert Hall and City Hall – The Royal Family"
In the last few years Princess Madeleine sometimes didn't attend, because of illness but you can't say if this will happend this year. Do not hope!
At the swedish version of royalcourt.se there is also said that the King's sister Princess Christina attends the ceremony, but she does this every year! So, nothing new.
I can feel the nobel spirit already. Tomorrow the royal couple, Victoria and Princess Christina will attend the Nobel Concert. I can't wait to see the ceremony on wednesday. I think it is a pity that is only broadcastet in the swedish TV. It would be nice if everyone would have the chance to see the ceremony on TV. I have to watch it on nobelprize.org. Isn't the best thing, but better than nothing.

Are there two concerts? I was reading about the schedule in the Norway thread, and there was a mention that the concert was scheduled for 11 December. Does Sweden have a separate concert?

Yes, the Nobel Concert (as opposed to the Nobel Peace Prize Concert) took place Monday night as part of Stockholm Nobel week. Quite an elaborate affair with great classic music, see the information from the official website:
http://nobelprize.org/nobelmedia/concert/2008/
The concert was broadcast live on Swedish TV, it was attended by the King and Queen, the Crown Princess and Princess Christina, and it’s quite incomprehensible that the photo agencies don’t seem to have pics of the evening…

Thank you, Boris for the clarification. I am also wondering why photos of this concert have not yet been released. I tried to search for them a few minutes ago, but came up empty-handed. Does anyone know if Princess Madeline and Prince Carl Philip attended the concert with the rest of their family?

No, Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl Philip weren't present at the concert.
Of course they will attend the award ceremony and following banquet tomorrow, and probably also the annual ‘Day After’ gala dinner given by the King for the Nobel laureates at Stockholm Palace on Thursday.
In the meantime, the Nobel Academy has released the seating plan for the banquet’s table of honor tomorrow, here it is:
http://nobelprize.org/nobelfoundation/press/2008/table-of-honor.html
I still hope that pics from yesterday’s concert will turn up, the lack of any is rather annoying.

Thought it would be interesting to see some pictures of the security measures prior to the Award-ceremony:
