Swedish State Visit to Belgium; May 8-11, 2001
The Kings of Sweden and Princess Victoria visited Belgium in June 2001.
This visit was the first public event attended by Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde after the announcement that they were expecting their first child. At the airport (it was a windy day which caused some trouble in the ladies’ hats)

After arriving to the airport Princess Victoria, escorted by the Dukes of Brabant, paid a visit to a Swedish School, where she chatted with teachers and students.
 (they left the hats in the car for the visit)  The Kings of Sweden and the Kings of Belgium salute from Laeken’s Palace Balcony

In the first day a Gala Dinner was held at Royal Palace of Laeken, where the elegant and cheerful tones of the ladies dresses competed with the tiaras used by Princesses Mathilde, Victoria and Astrid and by Queens Paola and Silvia.

On 2nd day both Royal Families went to Amberes.
During this visit Queen Silvia and Princess Victoria could admire a portrait of Queen Astrid, present at Amberes City Hall, who died tragically when she was 30 years old.  Later Queen Paola escorted Queen Silvia and Princess Victoria to an investigation centre in the HIV area, where using a special 3D glasses they watched a video.

The first gala event (where silvia wears the cameo tiara) I saw on television at the time, and it sparked much of my love for both the Swedish queen and the cameo tiara (hence my avatar)...
