A rare tiara event where there is only one

Understandable the two new moms are home with the babies Happy we saw them earlier today. Perhaps they will be at the reciprocal dinner tomorrow night.

The queen looked lovely in blue between her son and son in law.

It looks like Queen Silvia is wearing the Nine-Prong (aka Queen Sofia's) tiara.

As Alexander is so young i did not expect Sofia at the dinner though i must say i was a little bit surprised that Victoria did not attend the dinner when she was present earlier in the day and attended the banquet on her fathers birthday.
But ofcourse i understand her.

Christina and Tord usually spend most of their time at their home in France during this time of the year so i did not expect them. It's quite sad that no one else of the King's sisters are taking parts in these events.

Great anyway to finally see an incoming state visit from Chile, my homecountry during my first 7 months of life, before i was adopted to Sweden.

At the banquet Silvia and Daniel wore red sashes and CP wore blue. I'm guessing they're tied to Chile, but what do they represent and why the different colors?

I wasn't surprised at all that Victoria didn't attend at the dinner. She didn't attend at the dinner of the finnish state visit in 2012 (although she was present at the photos and lunch) and Oscar is now only about two weeks older than Estelle was then. The king's birthday was an exceptional event, Victoria is the heir to the throne and it was expected that she would hold a speech to her father and attend at the banquet with the royal guests.

Chile's president expressed thanks to Sweden on Tuesday for helping thousands of Chileans escape persecution during the dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet.
On the first-ever state visit by a Chilean president to the Nordic country, Michelle Bachelet highlighted the efforts of the Swedish prime minister at the time, Olof Palme, and Harald Edelstam, who was the country's ambassador to Chile.
"Chile will never stop being grateful for that helpful hand," Bachelet told reporters in Stockholm.
Her father was arrested and tortured for opposing Pinochet's 1973 coup and died in police custody.

thanks for this
so if I understand correctly, Carl Philip got a "higher" order than the Queen and Daniel?

No. Two different orders, but not a matter of 'higher'.

The order of merit is a military honor. It is presented to foreigners who have served in the military. Both the king and his son have served in the armed forces, so have been awarded the military order. There are five ranks of this order.

The Queen and Prince Daniel have not served in the military. So they have been awarded the civilian honor instead. The O'Higgins is granted to civilians who have not served in the military, for their work in fields of arts, sciences and education. I know Daniel was part of the conscription process in Sweden, but it seems that wasn't considered enough military service for the other order.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't think of that as a possibility, and didn't know whether a order's military status or not was relevant for awarding them to head of states or members of royal families.

About the Orders: for instance queen Letizia, queen Sofia, queen Maxima and princess Margriet have got the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit. But queen Silvia got the Grand Cross of the Order of Bernardo O'Higgins.

I think its great Victoria attended the day time events both days I am not surprised she opted to spend the evenings with her kids, even if missed seeing her in the tiara.

And definitely great to see Sofia make an appearance so soon

I was just about to post that. I did some digging and Letizia does have the order of merit from Chile (and i dont think any military service)
