Lovely pictures indeed. It is always a pleasure to see Princess Lilian out and about. She looked really elegant and lovely today.

Thanks to Dennis and GrandDuchess for posting the new pictures.

A ponytail...sigh...when there´s one thing, that I hate more than a ponytail at an official function, than it´s a ponytail + a hat combined
Lol..I don't mind hats and a ponytail. I figure one must do something with one's hair when a hat; a ponytail is just an easy and convenient solution.;)

Does any one know how Princess Lilian's health is?

There was nothing announced from the palace (stay in a hospital, quiting Royal duties etc.) So here the saying "no news is good news" is probably true. But I´ve to say, that she seemed quite fragile and tired to me today (in the live-stream). On the other hand for a woman of that age she´s quite fit. I might be wrong, but when I count right, then she´s the second oldest Royal (in the sense of "to the Royal house belonging") in Europe (after prince Bernhard of the Netherlands)!

Where was Madeleine?I know that she attended in former times...

Many thanks for posting the pictures. Did you see pics from Opera yesterday evening from the king, queen and victoria visit "Tosca". Thanks for help!

One of the hosts of the broadcast from the Parliament said that the Royal Court had let them know that Princess Madeleine couldn't attend because of an upcoming exam she had to study for.

I agree with Lena that she does look more fragile now than before, but I also think that she's quite healthy and fit for her age - and like she's said herself - she'll keep on doing her little bit as long as she can.

Two more pictures, this time from the Royal Court's website:

Do you know why does Queen Silvia always wear black outfit at The Opening of Parliarment?

Maybe she is sad that her husband is no absolute monarch anymore ;)

She hasn´t always wore black at this event, last year it was quite obvious with the murder of Anna Lindh but this year i don´t really know why, maybe she hasn´t got over it yet? who knows...

Queen Silvia usually wears a black (sometimes dark blue) outfit to the opening of the swedish parliament. I think its kind of a tradition...
I cant remember that she ever wore another colour at this occasion?

Maybe i have mixed up the times with some other event, is it always dark? Wasn´t she wearing some orange suit with that same black hat as this year a couple of years back, or am i completely wrong? Maybe you have pictures?

now I´m not sure either :) But I think so, I cant remember seeing her wear any other colour than black. Victoria, Lilian and Madeleine wears other colours, perhaps you thought of them?
But I´ll check and see if I can find a picture of a colourful queen...

I really like the Queen's hat...she should wear hats like this more often...and in more colors!

Couldn't they get a better landau than the one being used? It doesn't let people get a very good veiw of the King and Queen. Even the carraige with Princess Victoria was useless with her having to look out of that tiny little window.

They used this landau with the roof up because of the weather. Previous years they've used open one. I it varies from year to year, considering weather and perhaps other things too.

is it always in september can one predict the date?

The Opening of Parliament takes place in the middle of September every year, except for election years. In an election year, the general elections are held on the third Sunday in September - and the new Parliament gathers on the 15th day after the election day.

Princess Madeleine?

Hopefully we will see Princess Madeleine here this year. Am I right in thinking she was unable to attend last year due to her University studies?

Will CP Victoria have a part in the opening?

The monarch is the only one that has an active role in this, the other members of the Royal Family are only in attendance. I think Crown Princess Victoria will be there, she usually is. Unless she would be very ill or something of course, but I doubt that will be the case.

Programme for the Opening of Parliament 2005

# 11.00 – Roll Call for the Members of Parliament in the Chamber.

# 12:15 – Church Service in the Stockholm Cathedral attended by the Members of Parliament, the Speaker of the Parliament, the King and Queen, Princess Lilian and a small amount of ordinary citizens.

# 13:00 – The doors to the Parliament opens, the first guests arrive. The Army Music Corps plays and the Grenadiers from the Royal Guards parade on Riksplan (outside). A folk dance group (Kedjan) with the landscape banners parade inside in the Grand Stairs, where a folk music group from Rättvik in Dalarna County also plays music. This year the Speaker of the Parliament of Norway will attend. Invited guests are also foreign diplomats, representatives of authorities and organisations, representatives from the trade and industry, as well as a school class. All guests will be in their seats at 13:40 at the latest.

# Just before 14:00 – The Royal Cortège arrives from the Royal Palace; the Speaker of the Parliament greets the Royal Family outside.

# 14:00 – The royals and their entourage enter the doors to the Parliament, they stop for a while to listen and watch the entertainment in the Grand Stairs. As they enter the Chamber everyone rises from their seats. The royals take their seats and the King’s song is sung. The Speaker of the Parliament asks the King to open Parliament; the King holds a speech and then opens it. The Prime Minister reads his Declaration of Government. Entertainment is also on display during the Opening of Parliament, a brass quintet will play and a youth choir will sing.

# 15:00 – The Opening of Parliament is concluded. The royals exit to the Grand Marche, and then the rest follows. The Speaker of the Parliament holds his traditional reception at the Parliament.

# In the evening, a concert will be held in the Concert Hall in Stockholm in connection to the day’s Opening of Parliament.

Broadcasting: the TV channels SVT2 and 24 Direkt, the Parliament’s web TV, the radio channel P1 and text TV service will direct broadcast the Opening of Parliament.
