Princess Madeleine?
Hopefully we will see Princess Madeleine here this year. Am I right in thinking she was unable to attend last year due to her University studies?

The monarch is the only one that has an active role in this, the other members of the Royal Family are only in attendance. I think Crown Princess Victoria will be there, she usually is. Unless she would be very ill or something of course, but I doubt that will be the case.
Programme for the Opening of Parliament 2005
# 11.00 – Roll Call for the Members of Parliament in the Chamber.
# 12:15 – Church Service in the Stockholm Cathedral attended by the Members of Parliament, the Speaker of the Parliament, the King and Queen, Princess Lilian and a small amount of ordinary citizens.
# 13:00 – The doors to the Parliament opens, the first guests arrive. The Army Music Corps plays and the Grenadiers from the Royal Guards parade on Riksplan (outside). A folk dance group (Kedjan) with the landscape banners parade inside in the Grand Stairs, where a folk music group from Rättvik in Dalarna County also plays music. This year the Speaker of the Parliament of Norway will attend. Invited guests are also foreign diplomats, representatives of authorities and organisations, representatives from the trade and industry, as well as a school class. All guests will be in their seats at 13:40 at the latest.
# Just before 14:00 – The Royal Cortège arrives from the Royal Palace; the Speaker of the Parliament greets the Royal Family outside.
# 14:00 – The royals and their entourage enter the doors to the Parliament, they stop for a while to listen and watch the entertainment in the Grand Stairs. As they enter the Chamber everyone rises from their seats. The royals take their seats and the King’s song is sung. The Speaker of the Parliament asks the King to open Parliament; the King holds a speech and then opens it. The Prime Minister reads his Declaration of Government. Entertainment is also on display during the Opening of Parliament, a brass quintet will play and a youth choir will sing.
# 15:00 – The Opening of Parliament is concluded. The royals exit to the Grand Marche, and then the rest follows. The Speaker of the Parliament holds his traditional reception at the Parliament.
# In the evening, a concert will be held in the Concert Hall in Stockholm in connection to the day’s Opening of Parliament.
Broadcasting: the TV channels SVT2 and 24 Direkt, the Parliament’s web TV, the radio channel P1 and text TV service will direct broadcast the Opening of Parliament.

Here are pictures of the King, Queen, Crown Princess and Princess Lilian (and the Speaker of Parliament and wife in one, the wife is the one in a pink-ish jacket) today at the church service held before the Opening of Parliament, and at the Opening of Parliament at the Houses of Parliament, to which they travelled to by carriages in a cortège through Stockholm. From Imagine Scandinavia.

I think she might have been laughing to tears, at least that's what Crown Princess Victoria did (a little I think) during the ceremony, she and the Speaker of the Parliament had such a big laugh together. The whole athmosphere was very "gigglish" in the Parliament today, I don't know why though.

Great photos, thanks for posting them GrandDuchess. I especially like the last one in the last set, great smile! Is it tradition to wear black to the opening of parliament, both Queen Silvia and CPss Victoria seem to be in black?

The King and Queen rode in a parade kalesch à la d'Aumont, a four horse carriage, during the còrtege to the Houses of Parliament. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Carl Philip followed in a two horse parade landeau. As you can see, Princess Madeleine did not attend.
The Crown Princess Victoria and the Speaker of the Parliament had a big laugh together today during the Opening of Parliament, which you can see in some of the pictures I post below (in one the Speaker of the Parliament is wiping his tears off).
These pictures are from Svenska Dagbladet.

I think that Victoria looked good today even though I don´t know why they insist of wearing black outfits every year. But maybe it´s from the "old" time when the cermony was held at the palace, in the pictures that I have seen from that time the Females of the royal family seemed to be dress in black, even though they wore a royal robe and big jewels.

I also have the same opinion, from over the recent years, always at the Opening of The Parliament, The Queen always wears black, i don't know why, some years before i think she just wore black hat only, but now completely black,i think it might be since the death of the Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh who was killed in 2003? Anyone know about that?Because i used to see The Queen wore orange at The Opening of Parliament.

Here are various pictures from Imagine Scandinavia, Facetoface and Fotomarktplatz/dpa, part I
I can´t say, what it is...but Victoria looks of late (summer/autumn) amazingly at ease. It´s not, that she hasn´t looked happy in the past. But in the comparison to now, it often seemed more like some kind of "hysterical" happiness. Now she seems really well-balanced and at peace with herself. In a nutshell I would say, that she looks fantastic.

I saw the photo of Victoria laughting. But in this one everyone looks so serious, look at Göran Persson for example. it seems odd that everyone else is so serious while the queen is laughting to tears...
