I agree. They all looked fabolous at the Gala. But what happened to Matte-Merit? Where is she? Why didn't she attend at the Swedish State visit?

Mette-Marit did not attend because of low blood pressure. With her being pregnant her doctors decided it was best she stay home.

I really liked Victoria's red top and black skirt from the day ceremony. But her brim looked like someone sat on it, it's so uneven. Mind you, her hair was too pulled-back and flat when she removed the hat!

Loved everyone's gala outfits. Except for Sonja's bright yellow dress, way too yellow.

I thought Victoria's hair was perfict! :)

I went down to Skeppsbron in Stockholm (where the Norwegians ship lies) yesterday after work and my timing was perfect, the royals just came back from the day's activities. I thought that, "what goes in must come out" so I stayed there for about 90 minutes (my husband was with me). And after a while they came out in their gala outfits. They seemed very nice and waved to us (it was a very small crowd). Especially Haakon stopped and waved for a long time. I noticed that Sonja seemed to have a bit of troubles with the bridge up to the boat. Does she have some injury?

However, it was nice weather and a lovely evening!

Hey! I was just wondering if anyone knew which language these two families speak when they are together. Are Swedish and Norwegian close enough that they could understand each others languages without trouble or do they probably speak English together? Maybe the Swedes and Norwegians on the Forum could help with this question! Thanks!
Swedish and Norwegian are close enough so that we understand each other while speaking our mother tongue so I very much doubt they speak English together.

Thanks for the pictures!

Queen Sonja wore both the thing in dots and the yellow dress before. I believe the yellow dress was worn in Spain, at the pre-wedding ball for Infanta Cristina (and before that she wore it as werll, I remember a picture of her waving on a balcony in this dress).
Marie-Therese of Luxembourg has the same dress (with the dots) as queen Sonja, only in a brownish shade, this dress also dates from the mid/late 90-ties.

Victoria looked very lovely I might add, both during the gala during the day. Red suits her well.

I think that they speak their own languages - the Norwegians speak Norwegian and the Swedes speak Swedish during this visit. Swedes, Norwegians and Danes can usually understand each other quite well, with the exception of some difficult dialects of course.

When Queen Margrethe visits Sweden and the Swedish Royal Family, she can speak Swedish with them if she wishes too, she speaks an excellent Swedish.

She has had several opperations in her feet and rarely wear high heels anylonger, I also noticed she had trouble getting down

More pictures fromthe gala and some close ups of the BLING, Madeleine looks very beautiful.

I think that if you are going to wear a dress several times, it should maybe be in a bit more discreete colour than Sonja's... I don't see why she couldn't have swapped either the skirt or the top on it, with another colour... she has done so with several other dresses. It makes for a lovely new experience then. Perhaps a soft shade of green to match the emeralds?

Anyone else noticed that King Harald's tie match Queen Sonja's dotted dress?! I noticed it yesterday on the news. Harald's tie is red with white dots!!

I haven' t see picture from King Carl XVI Gustaf will open the exhibition “Myths and Landscapes" at Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde from yesterday, the first day of the visit.
Who has find pictures from the event?

Thanks to all for posting the nice pictures from church and gala evening.

Great pictures!!!!!!!!I like Queen Silvia's oufit and hat and the dress most, she looks really fantastic and wonderful.

I think they all looked fantastic!
But... :) I like Madeleines hair better when its down, like she had at Mary and Frederiks wedding.
Victorias dress is great on her. And she seems to be in even better shape now than she was before.

Thanks for the pics everyone!

will mette-marit receive order of seraphim?

I noticed Prince Carl Philip & Princess Madeleine wearing norwegian order of st. olav. Will CP Mette-Marit receive swedish order of seraphim or not?
thanks...:)

As far as the royal ladies repeating dresses - I am wonder if they repeat them on purpose. Certainly they are aware of the world platform they have and both royal families have shown great environmental awareness. I wonder if this is one small way of sending a message not to live in such a materially decadent way as to wear new outfits on every occasion.
Just a thought....

Today King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, King Harald, Queen Sonja and Crown Princess Victoria visited the Mälsåker Manor House situated by the Lake Mälaren, near the town of Mariefred. The royals were orientated with information about “The White Busses”, the Norwegian resistance movement that were educated at Mälsåker during WWII, and the renovation work that is being carried out at the estate. Members of the Swedish Women's Voluntary Defence Service served traditional homemade pea soup cooked in a field kitchen from the 1940's.
