This thread is for Nobel years which don't have their own thread (only 2002, 2003 and 2004 does). I felt that it was needed since I have pics that I want to share from past Nobel years, so I will post them here. This can also be a conclusive thread for things to do with past Nobel things (historically, questions etc).

First, some historical pictures:

1) Crown Prince Carl Gustaf in 1972 (Gettyimages)
2) King Gustav V in 1946 (Corbis)
3) King Gustav V in 1938 (Corbis)
4) King Gustaf VI Adolf in 1948 (Corbis)
5) King Gustav V in 1960 (Corbis)
6) King Gustaf VI Adolf in 1950 (Corbis)
7) King Carl XVI Gustaf in 1982 (Corbis)

Very good job, GrandDuchess. The photos are lovely or jättesnygg.

Ok I really think Silvia is the bling bling Queen

Bling is a reference to elaborate jewelry and clothing and the appreciation of it. It came into the popular lexicon as a synonym for expensive, often flashy jewelry sported mostly by African American hip-hop artists and middle class white teens.

From magazine clips:

A closeup of Queen Silvia's Nobel dress in 1999

96356261494la.jpg

Queen Silvia at the Nobel Banquet in 1993, the dress is a real haute couture dream for experts (at least it was at the time)

That black and white dress sure made the headlines, I think it was by Nina Ricci or Balmain, I remember there were speculations, and still is, about the shocking amount of money it had cost, the Queen has not done true Haute Couture many times, this is one of her few and very memorable ones. Its almost always pointed out as the swedish fashion police favourite dress when it is pre nobel time in the papers. Has she worn it more than once, I cant rememeber seeing it again, and knowing that the Queen still wears 20 year old dresses it probably still fits:D

About 300 000 SEK is what I've heard (around $ 37 000)... But then it's true haute couture, and she had to do many fittings for it. I wish she'd have the curage to wear another haute couture dress again, it was so fab to see it!

Nina Ricci. She's worn it a few times actually. Most notably to the 25th wedding celebrations in Norway in 1993.

The black & white: Nina Ricci indeed, and first worn for the Luxemburg state visit to Sweden (1991, I think) WITHOUT the top black ruffles and thus showing a lot more cleavage, followed by much comment! I love this black & white dress with its great train, one of her best gala gowns ever, IMHO.
It's not quite true that Queen Silvia doesn't wear Haute Couture. The lilac flower print-dress worn for years (State visit to Italy, pre-wedding ball for Princess Christina of Spain etc.) was Nina Ricci also, the pink gown worn first for the Norwegian state visit to Sweden in 1993, then for her 50th birthday etc. was by Valentino, her 60th birthday dark grey suit by Caroline Herrera, and so on - she does wear couture, but most of it is not even shown at the designer's haute couture shows, so it's just rarely recognized or published.

nobel 2001 manipulation pic

After the 2001 nobel , one of the the major newspaper(Aftonbladet or Expressen) made an phonomanip there Silvia and Victoria hade changed nobeldresses. Does anyone have that picture ?

Do any other royals attend the Nobel ceremonies besides Sweden's?

Not by tradition or so, but occasionally. In 2002, Princess Benedikte of Denmark attended the banquet.

from 1985...princess lillian wore the six button tiara every nobel except for 6...does anybody know why she wear it all the time?

thanks for all the wonderful photos everyone!

the nobel is such a wonderful glittering event. not only does everyone look wonderful, they all seem very happy too. it's so festive. i love that.

Well...
...actually Queen silvia has been wearing rather more haute couture dresses than the Royal Court would like the general public to know.
There's not only the great black & white 1993 Nobel dress by Nina Ricci, but Nina Ricci also created the 1995 Nobel pink & grey silk tafetta dress, the 1997 turquoise & black print dress and the fairytale-like 2001 white 'ballerina' dress.
In addition to this, Queen Silvia keeps wearing Valentino (the pink gown last seen during the state visit to Australia), Caroline Herrera and Natan, among others.
Jacques Zehnder, a very discreet Paris couturier, has been Queen Silvia's recent favorite - so she is definitely wearing haute couture but obviously chooses not to give her designers free publicity like other Royals do. This way, she's opting for the good 'old-fashioned' way but nevertheless, most of her gowns are definitely haute couture.
As far as the upcoming Nobel is concerned, I fear that we won't see Queen Silvia wearing a new dress.
My prediction is that it will either be the heavily embroidered white & silver dress last seen during the state visit to Thailand or the lavender dress last seen for the King of Thailand's Diamond Jubilee.
No new real 'grand' evening gown has appeared ever since then... but then we can always hope for a happy surprise on Dec. 10, can't we... ;)

I thought princess Lillian's dress was more beautiful than Silvia's. But the queen had a beautiful necklace and a beautiful tiara.

What a beautiful Queen Silvia is! I really enjoyed all the photos, and it was nice to see Victoria as she was maturing, too. Fun thread!

Princess Lilian is much beautiful dress and she is 91 year activing!!!! More photo on Princess Lilian 2000-2006?? Princess Lilian is grand old lady of royal familys sweden!

She is 92 activing!!!, sorry not she is 91!
