Thank you GrandDuchess for starting the thread. So Nobel-fever is coming over us again. Maybe ONE of the Royal ladies has even decided to wear a new dress (as you see my expecations are low )

I´m pleased with this year´s choice for the award in medicine. Gastric problems are affecting so many, and those two Australians have surely made an effort (with success) to find (one of) the real cause(s).

Not to discredit all the brilliant people receiving these awards but I'm mainly looking forward to the royal ladies. I have high expectations this year where every single member of the royal family will be present. My plea to Madeleine is not to have an exam or be sick...:( and for everybody else to be in good health. I'm guessing Madeleine will be wearing her new six-button tiara but do you think her dress will be what she planned on wearing last year? I'm looking forward to a successful, all-present Nobel 2005 . (I also hope Silvia, Victoria, and Lillian have all been wearing repeat dresses in order to save up for a fabulous Nobel dress.)

Why are some Nobel festivities in Norway and some in Sweden? Are it going to be a thread on the Nobel festivities on the Norwegian "place" too?

The winner get the prize in Oslo Tower Hall 10th December rigth? and the 11 its a Consert in Oslo Spektrum and the a Party on Grand Hotel with all the artist and the winner.

But What happends in Sweden? A Gala? a dinner?

and btw, who is going to be the host in Oslo Spektrum (Plase not Tom Crusie and Oprah this year too!)

Wow! Is it time for the Nobel countdown already? Does anyone know yet if all the members of the royal family will be in attendance and if not who will be there?

What you are referring to is the Nobel Peace Prize, which is awarded in Norway. All the other five Nobel Prizes are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden. Every year there is one thread for the Peace Prize in the Norwegian forum, and one thread for the other five of the Nobel Prizes and the festivities taking place in Sweden.

Alfred Nobel was Swedish, and it is his fortune that made and still makes the Nobel Prizes possible. The Nobel Foundation is seated in Stockholm.

All Nobel Prizes (the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Economic Sciences), except the Peace Prize, are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden on the culmination of the Nobel Week on 10 December every year - Aldred Nobel's death anniversary.

When Alfred Nobel wrote his will - Norway was still Swedish. And Nobel was a man who believed in the union, so in his will he appointed the Norwegian Parliament to select the The Norwegian Nobel Committee who would take care of the Nobel Peace Prize which was instituted together with the other Nobel Prizes in his memory after his death.

On the 10th of December every year, there is a grand Award Ceremony in the Concert Hall for the Laureates of the five Nobel Prizes, and later the same evening there's a lavish and grand Banquet in the City Hall where the Royal Family takes part. And after the Nobel Day, usually on the 11th of December I think, the King hosts a dinner for the Nobel Laureates and their families at the Royal Palace.

You can read more about Alfred Nobel, the Nobel Prizes and everything else on the Nobel Foundation's official website.

Oh yes, for all of us Nobel lovers it's indeed time for the countdown! :)

I don't think we know anything about the attendance of the Royal Family at the festivities yet, I guess we'll have to wait a while for that to be known...

with all those recycled dresses that the female part of the royal family has worn this year, one could hope for something new at nobel, but we have had these hopes before...:(

I hope that Victoria will wear either the cannaugh tiara or the amethyst tiara this year.

Yes, let's hope for a change in tiara. It's not that I'm completely against the Four Button Tiara but it's been used so many times! Also, if Madeleine is wearing the Six Button Tiara, let's hope they don't decide to coordinate. But would Victoria wear the Connaught Diamond Tiara? It seems to be a particular favorite of Silvia's. Has Victoria ever worn the Amethyst Tiara to a Nobel?

I don't think Victoria will wear the Connaught Diamond Tiara at the moment maybe in the future Queen Silvia will give to Victoria maybe on her Wedding Day? But the Connaught seems has been Queen Silvia's favourite for long time and she loves to wear it really much.
