The article basically says that because the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, Elfriede Jelinek, has said that she can't come to the Nobel Week because of her phobia - it might be possible for The Queen or Crown Princess to hand over the Prize in Austria. The Nobel Foundation is the one who decides, but this is at least a positive signal from the Court with Ann-Christin Jernberg's comment. Although I would prefer if Elfriede could come to Stockholm...

Litteraturvinnaren Elfriede Jelinek kanske får som hon vill – Nobelpriset ur Silvias eller Victorias hand.
– Det är ju trevligt att hon vill att drottningen eller kronprinsessan ska komma dit med priset. Vi får se hur det blir, säger hovets informationschef Ann-Christine Jernberg.

När Expressen träffade litteraturpristagaren i Österrike berättade hon att hon inte kommer till Nobelprisutdelningen i Sverige. Orsaken är hennes ångest för att vara i stora folksamlingar. Men Elfriede Jelinek är mycket glad över priset och säger:
– Det vore roligt om drottning Silvia eller prinsessan Victoria kom hit och lämnade Nobelpriset.

Hovets Ann-Christine Jernberg kan ännu inte ge besked om det blir så.
– Det har jag svårt att svara på så här på rak arm. Det är ju också något som Nobelstiftelsen får ha synpunkter på, hur man vill överlämna priset.

Och Elfriede Jelinek kommer kanske trots allt att närvara vid de svenska festligheterna i december, på en tv-skärm.
– Kanske spelar jag in tacktalet på video så de kan visa det på festen i Stadshuset.

Yes, she said that she can't be around many people at a time... And she doesn't travel either, she only travels between the city she lives in and another German town because of something to do with her work at times.

Why "another" german town...the town (Vienna) in which she´s living mainly isn´t german Austrians aren´t Germans...that is, as if you would say, that Victoria is the future Queen of the Swedes and Norwegians This is now not mean meant...just a little correction :)

Oh, she lives in Austria - sorry! Stupid me, mixing it up! I know, difference - Germany and Austria - two countries (and I've even been to both of them!)... I just think I remember Elfriede saying that she travels between two German cities... But maybe it was between and Austran AND German city then...

I found a very nice article/story on The Nobel Foundation's website: Organizing the Nobel Festival Day by Lena de Champ who was the head of the Nobel Festivities Secretariat from 1983 to 1999. It's a nice story about how they go about organizing the Award Ceremony and Banquet, with some anecdotes included. Nothing new, but the anecdotes were nice, and for those who haven't seen the Nobel Day's happenings on TV - it's a guide to what goes on that day.

i'm a little confused.....i always thought that the nobel prize was awarded in Oslo, Norway? what is the swedish connection?

When Alfred Nobel came up with the idea of the Prizes, Norway and Sweden were the same country. Nobel was Swedish. The Nobel Peace Prize has always been given out in Oslo or in Kristiania which is its former name.

All Nobel Prizes (the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Economic Sciences) except the Peace Prize are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden on the culmination of the Nobel Week on 10 December every year - Aldred Nobel's death anniversary. As Dennis said, when Alfred Nobel wrote his will - Norway was still Swedish. And Nobel was a man who believed in the union, so it was no strange thing to let the Storting take care of the Peace Prize. I don't know how it is with the Nobel Peace Prize, but in Stockholm the award is publicly televised isn't it GrandDuchess, while the preparation for the banquet is shown on internet up until the service commences at which time it becomes a private affair. The latter is good taste, imo, and maintains a special aura .... not imho common if its public knowledge of a public event.
