June 6 - Sweden's National Day (2010-2023)

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Its great to see royal ladies in their national dresses but when they posed for the group photos, then the men looked like they attended some totally different event :ermm:

But like Margareta Thorgren told earlier, he had a work appointment, which "he had tried to cancel, but couldn't". Well, the swedish National Day is always on 6th June...
that says everything, doesn't it.
Actually, it doesn't. More, I think you are both being very unfair to call Chris on this.

It has been my experience that appointments or meetings involve more than one person and sometimes just getting everyone in the same place at the same time is a masterly undertaking. Add an international factor and things get even tighter.

Chris is a private citizen and, if he could have been there for his wife I am sure he would have been. However, he was there when it counted, for an important family occasion and I am sure he will be there for the next one.

I adore the photos of Estelle and Oscar with Victoria, they melt my heart. Oscar is such a cute little one and I think that he looks a lot like Estelle did at that age. I think the photos also really capture Estelle's lively, but friendly personality.

The photos from the National Day celebrations were nice too, they seem to be rather fun. It was sweet to see Alexander there. He seemed to be very cosy in his blankets, and Sofia and Carl Philip both looked so happy. I was a little disappointed not to see Chris or Leonore, however I've gotten the impression now that Chris wants to remain a private citizen and doesn't like being in the spotlight, so perhaps it's natural for him not to go. But it still would have been nice to see him there with his in-laws.

Is this Estelle's first time attending the concert? I don't remember seeing her there before. It was great that she went.

Estelle didn't attend at the concert, it is still too long for her and the volume of the music is too loud. She was with her parents at the cortege, like in previous years, this was already fourth time for her. And just before Skansen the carriage stops and I guess it's Estelle's nanny who takes her to the car and takes her back home.

What was interesting was that someone put on the National Day on Twitter Daniel's speech at the citizenship ceremony in Malmö 2012 (he was there alone), and this message was retweeted over 400 times. Daniel said among other things "Being Swedish doesn’t to have a particular skin color or hair color. Being Swedish is not particular dialect or accent. Being Swedish is to share a language, to share a place on earth, and to share a community".

Oh okay, I knew she was at the cortege but I must've not been reading properly since the concert was mentioned on the same page of this thread that I was reading at the time. I'll edit that question out to avoid any confusion. Thank you for the correction.

When I saw the cortege I smiled when I saw CP sitting beside Sofia and Madeleine sitting across riding backwards. At QEII Diamond Anniversary, when Prince Philip was too ill to attend, Charles and Camilla joined her so she didn't ride alone. I asked why Camilla and not Charles sat next to HM and was told it was chivalry. I would have loved to see Princesses Madeleine and Sofia sitting together with CP across from them. There was more to see with the ladies National Dress versus CP's suit. :D

Maybe I'm late in asking this: but why has princess Estelle worn that kind of thread around her head twice so far? Is it a typical traditional item for little girls during the national day (as the white cap for the married women), or is it just something that Victoria decided to put on her child?

What I have seen, the band can be worn by girls or young women with traditional costumes. Victoria wore a band with her Öland costume on her birthday until 2005, in 2006 she didn't wear it anymore.

It's great that GEN-PEP takes part in the Open Palace.
From the program:
Come on, all children and adolescents! Meet Generation PEP at the Inner courtyard and try out funny activities with project manager Carolina Klüft and other exciting guests. The Crown Princess couple is the initiator of the organization Generation PEP which, together with actors from the whole society, operates long-term public health work with children and young people in focus.
For the children
Activities for children with organization Generation PEP at the Inner courtyard with a fenced mini-football field (soft balls and nets), an information tent and an obstacle course for the youngest.

This year's National Day celebrations at Görväln will have a royal visit. The Crown Princess couple will attend the celebration. In March, Järfälla's Municipal Director contacted the Royal Court to ask if they could attend the celebration and now the schedule is ready.
Why would they celebrate in just Järfälla?
- The Crown Princess has been in the municipality earlier, and at Görväln especially which she thinks is a very nice place. Then Järfälla is a municipality where there is a lot of things going on and many move there, says Leo Plöen, communications officer at Järfälla municipality.
The Crown Princess couple get there at 11.45 and they plan to stay for about an hour. At 12.30, the Crown Princess will also give a speech from the stage.
Will they have time to mingle with the people of Järfälla?
- It is Säpo which estimates that. But they will be able to sit and enjoy the show like everyone else.
Have you done any special preparations for them to come?
- No, not really. The event was planned before it was clear they would come.
Därför kommer kronprinsessan till Görväln

GEN-PEP is on the National Day at the Open Palace at the Inner courtyard and organizes activites to the children with a fenced mini-football field (soft balls and nets) and an obstacle course for the youngest plus some surprises. Author Josephine Sundström, who wrote a book to GEN-PEP is there too.
The football field was already today ready at the courtyard and Daniel and Carolina Klüft tested it, short video:

:previous: adorable pictures of the kids :flowers: Love we always get new ones today.

I still think the Swedish men should have to wear national costume as well. It only seems fair :)

Very lovely photos of Estelle and Oscar. The scenery looks especially beautiful. I don't know why but I had little hope that perhaps this year we will see photos of all five grandchildren together, but alas no luck :(

I also think that the Swedish men should wear national costume just like ladies wear theirs!

This year Carl Philip came out from the gates and then the gates were open. So he didn't open them traditionally.

I agree. I also think (and I suppose I'm the sole human being on this planet) that it's incredibly boring that it's only Estelle (and now Oscar) every single year. I simply don't care for them.
Hopefully a little alternation will occur in the years to come. There are more grandchildren around (of course also depending on the coverage the other parents want for their children, I understand that).

I think the focus is on Estelle and Oscar is that Estelle is a future queen (fifth queen regnant in Sweden's history) and Oscar is third in line to the throne. There's little chance the other children (Leonore, Nicholas, Alexander and Baby Bernadotte-Hellquivst no. 2) would ever ascend; therefore, there's less focus on them.
