June 6 - Sweden's National Day (2003-2009)

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Hm, Madeleine always looks on the national day, as if she would have partied the night before...is there a special tradition in Sweden, that youngsters party in the night before the national day?

Probably a tradition for Madeleine! :innocent:

She probably was thinking of the Gucci Boutique and shopping there with her good friend, Lena. :p

With the same traditional clothes and hairstyle (ponytail), we'll have a hard time identifying the pictures later as to what year was it taken. It's very similar to what I've seen in June 6, 2000 or 2001? 2002 or 2003?

It would be very nice if Madeleine and Victoria (especially Queen Silvia- that's the same look for years now) will vary their hairdo (like what mette-marit does) like wavy this time. What's wrong with a little hair clip or hair flowers :flower: or wear it straight or wavy or maybe with extensions

I (enemy of the ponytail) agree here completely :p The only problem with Silvia is, that we don´t see much of her hair, because of the hood...so it doesn´t make much sense to have a complex hairdo.
For the 2 princesses I would suggest something simple and decent( I mean it´s clear, that they have to wear these traditional costumes and no gala dresses!), but much more impressing than a ponytail. E.g. what do you think of this?

yes, thats a very nice variation Lena. Or they could do the parted variation of that one :flower:

And yes you are right about the hood on Queen Silvia.

It has also a more pungent and gloomy reason. For the last years the Parliament, dominated by republicans, has given The Royal Court so little money, that The Court has been loss-making several years. His Majesty has often paid The Courtiers' salaries by His own private money. Last year the administration of The Royal Castles had a deficit of SEK 2.2 million. The Royal Court must therefor promote it self and The Royal Castles in order to attract more and new visitors. Thus The Royal Court has to trust in gate money!
Well maybe the king should found a private castle running company! Which takes over all employees, gets all the money from the state, he and his family is employed in. And finally if the loss is to big this company can get bancrupt all the employees do get fired. And as responsible head for running the company some prominent politician. So they can control that the money is used correctly. And finally its their problem then!
Then i would fire som employees and replace thme by cheaper onse from the new european unioun members.

The Royal Castles are not Private Royal Property, but State Property. The responsibility for The Royal Castles as a part of our cultural heritage is a duty of The Ministry of Culture, whose Head of Ministry is the Minister of Culture, the aggressive socialist and republican Marita Ulvskog. So basically it already is the politicians' problem, but what would the socialists mind, if our historical momories and our cultural heritage disintegrate? That is their goal!

how did he than gain a loss?
Maybe a state visit should be housed in a youth hostel to save money.

Or presents to them should be sponsored by "Nokia for connecting people" and to save money! ( I know Nokia is Finnish  )

Well maybe you should manage to take away the seal of UN cultural heritage for Drottningholm. this would be a total shame for them/her. Everybody in Europe would lough about the stupid swedish politician!

If the buildings were not mine I would not care as king, even if it they burned down. I just would call the fire department! And write to the parliament in an open letter that they should rebuild them!

So if he is not responsible for the buildings how much money does he get and what is it used for? To pay all the employees and the guards? How mane employees does he have? maybe he should fire some of them!

Fortunately the King has more responsibility than you would have, if you were King.

So he has to pay for them?
If I would not have enough money I would save some money there. Its quete expensive to support an old building!

So he has to keep them running and keep them in a good shape and just gets 8 MSEK crowns as far as I know? how dos this working. This lousy castle in my hometown is much more expensive then 2 Mio Euros per year and its just a "ordinary" one. Not a cultural UN world heritage and just one!

No, in 2003 he got SEK 45.3 million from the Parliament (for the expenses of the Castles) and SEK 34.3 million from gate money.

All of this is atrocious. Being a Socialist does not mean that you have to gut the funding for the historical monuments of your country. What is next, then? Are they going to allow the desecration of runic stones? A person may not like the monarchy or the policies of past leaders but these are historical monuments. They are part of the national identity. Shame on the Swedish government for letting this happen. They are symbols of the past( Du tronar på minnen från fornstora dar, då ärat Ditt namn flög över jorden.) that need to be maintained. Their beauty and grandeur should not be spoiled because of political beliefs. It´s silly and petty and it needs to be stopped. But perhaps I am overreacting just a little bit. The history of any country is important and I hate to see public funding for the national monuments gutted in such a way.

Socialists are not far away from Kommunists and Kommunists are idiots!

The economy of the Court Administration - 48 million SEK from the State
The economy of the Palace Administration - 46 million SEK from the State
The economy of the Royal Djurgården Administration - self funded (ca 50 million SEK run through it)
The private economy of the Royal Family - The members of the Royal House's private money, as well as Solliden and Stenhammar's administrations

From the Royal Court's website:

THE OFFICE OF THE GOVENOR OF THE ROYAL PALACES
Head: the Governor of the Royal Palaces. The Royal Palaces (Stockholm, Drottningholm, the Chinese Pavilion, Ulriksdal, Haga, Rosendal, Gripsholm, Strömsholm, Tullgarn and Rosersberg), together with Royal Djurgården, are owned by the State but, by agreement in 1809/10 between Karl XIII and the Estates of the Realm, are at the disposal of the Royal Family. It is the task of the Office, within the scope of this right of user, to manage the Royal Palaces and Royal Djurgården with their appurtenant buildings, parks, gardens, estates and woodlands and to actively upgrade the asset, in terms of cultural and natural heritage, which the Palaces and Djurgården represent. The brief also includes the Royal Manor of Drottningholm. Four Palace Administrations and the Royal Djurgården Administration handle day-to-day activities. The Royal Djurgården Administration is responsible for the activity at Ulriksdal Palace Administration.

The National Property Board (SFV) is responsible for the maintenance and running of the Royal Residences, with the exception of Stockholm Palace, which is run by the Administration of the Royal Palace of Stockholm. The Royal Djurgården Administration is a self-supporting economic unity with its own buildings.

H.M. the King's Council on Questions of Land and Buildings exists to advise the King on matters affecting State-owned land and buildings at the King's disposal. The Council meets twice yearly, under the King's chairmanship and, in addition to the Marshal of the Realm and the Governor of the Royal Palaces, includes representatives of the Riksdag, the Royal Academy of Sciences, the Central Board of National Antiquities, the National Property Board and the City of Stockholm. The Office includes the Palace Architects.

The Office of the Governor of the Royal Palaces also includes Governors of the Ten Royal Palaces, a Superintendent of Parks, Palace Head Gardeners, Gardeners, Groundsmen, a Director of Building Operations, a Chief Engineer, Maintenance technicians, Supervisors of the Royal Palaces, Master of the Royal Hunt, Administrative Officer, a Park Engineer, Carpenters, Painters, Palace Guards, Caretakers, Overseers and Foremen. Large numbers of casual staff are also employed, especially in the summer season.

Here you can read more about the economy (old sums of money though)

But the question:

How to make a loss of about 2.2 Mio SEK is unanswerd. Your post of minor interest as it gives no answers. You could give him no money and he could earn money. Why has he had a loss! To few money than you have to give him more obviously. Managment problems? Than someone of the parliament should help him to fix this! Or maybe rent Stockholm Palace to a big company as their headquarter to gain extra revenues ;)

Maybe Bill Gates would pay a lot of money for a nice representative new headquarte in Northern Europe. It would be so royal

Well I don’t know exactly what is behind the deficit – but running a whole Royal Court and all it included is indeed expensive! And yet The King has also expressed earlier that there’s so much more he would like to do, but can’t because there is no more money. He had at one time said that he would like to develop the showings of the Royal Palaces.

Quote from the Royal Court's annual report for 2003:
“A review of the organisation and the activities of the displaying to the public has been started. The goal is to make it possible for even more people to visit the Royal Palaces and thereby also increase the income and make it possible to improve the care of the rich cultural heritage that the Palaces and its inventories and parks represent”

So they try to figure out. Aren't there any results yet. Halftime in 2004. SO if you do not know whats the problem you will have a loss again!

A very good idea. Give the public more opportunities to put to see the beautiful tapestries and paintings.

I think, that the cause of the loss is quite obvious. The Royal Court does not get enough money in order to fulfil its obligation to take good care of this part of our cultural heritage. But hopefully, this year and the years to come, the Court will get more gate money.

You also could start an adoption program. Adopt a piece of art! And sponsor its renewal! Therefore getting a prominent place in the Building where this things are kept. Like a Zoo does this and so on!

Well... That would be an idea, but I don't know, if the Court has thought about that option. Perhaps it would be good; I think, that the people care more about our cultural heritage than the politicians do, so the Palace Administration would surely get some more money that way.

Who's this red dressed beauty here?
That is Björn von Sydows wife. Björn von Sydow is the Talman =spokeman(?) of Riksdagen, the parliament. Being this he is the second most prominent man in Sweden, just after the King himself. The rank is higher than statsministern, the prime minister, Göran Persson because he is the man you makes the parliament spin regardless of political views. I think that at 6 juni the talman is the host and therefore he and his wife ( or she and her husband as it was with Talman Birgitta Dahl) is sitting at the front row with the Royal Family.

Speaker of the parliament. He was also the first person to speak after the Royal Family arrived on the scene.
