Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of Bernadottes: October 20, 2010 & February 5, 2018

In what way are the French Bernadottes related to the Swedish branch?

I think they are descendants of brothers of Karl XIV Johan Bernadotte.

I wonder whether Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte himself expected his dynasty to remain on the throne for this long ...

Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte aka Carl XIV John was quiet worried about revolution and he had even done some preparations in cause that him has leave the country quickly. So I guess that he would be quiet surprised that his dynasty is still on throne (altough without any power) and monarchy would be quiet popular.

Another thing is how he would react idea that there would be reigning queen. He lived in France where was quiet strict salic law.

Jean Baptiste Bernadottes portrait shows him as a dashing, handsome Field Marshall.
Very much an action man in my view.
Wow 200 years already! A very interesting time/200 years for the Bernadotte descendants.

Does anybody have an explanation for why Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and her sisters are regarded as Bernadottes? In addition to Margrethe and Benedikte apparently being the only foreign royals invited to the Bernadotte jubilee in 2010, they and Anne-Marie were recently added to the Ätten Bernadotte (The House of Bernadotte) section of the Royal House's official site.

Also added were profiles of Kings Frederik VIII and Frederik IX of Denmark. Prior to the update, the two them were listed in the family tree but did not have their own pages.

ETA: It may be connected to the Danish royal house specifically, since in that section, Queen Louise of Denmark and Queen Ingrid of Denmark are the only Swedish princesses of the blood who are referred to by their married titles, and Princess Ingeborg, by birth a Princess of Denmark, is the only consort who is not referred to by her maiden territorial designation or surname.
