The Royal Family justifies her absence in Japan by “reasons for agenda”

MADRID. - The Real House explained that the absence of representation of the Royal Family in the end of the Mundobasket of Japan, where the Spanish selection proclaimed campeona for the first time in history after dominating itself Greece, had to inescapable commitments of agenda. Reina Sofía had to attend a Congress of Cardiology in Barcelona that could not elude, King Don Juan Carlos has predicted this in Zarzuela behind schedule a reception with all the ambassadors of Spain abroad, and Princes de Asturias had to preside over a Congress of Syndrome of Down in Balearic.
The trip to Japan from Spain supposes 20 hours of airplane and the King, the only one who was available the weekend to attend the party, had not arrived in time at the reception of the ambassadors, according to justified the Real House.
However, the same sources admitted to Servimedia that Infants Elena and Cristina, as well as their spouses, did not have programmed no official activity that he prevented them to attend the historical encounter.

In several means they comment on the topic. It is a bit demagogic, because if they had gone and Spain had lost, they had criticized them, for doing this trip for nothing, how it happened with the World Championship of football. But on the other hand they have reason, because it has been a historical moment for the Spanish sport.

For the Kings and the Princes it was impossible because they had official previous acts that could not retire ... but the Infantas did not have any official activity. Besides, the topic is a nuisance more treating itself about the Dukes of Palm, who in other occasions have not had problems to travel when the game was of handball...

Infanta Cristina this in Greece these day, if the real house had sent some of them because they had gone that you do not have doubts, has done it without problems and always has represented the king like anybody. :)
I do not believe that the problem was of the Infants if not of the real house that nonshipment to anybody to that party.

Well, the Infantas and Jaime were in Greece, but Iñaki was not... Perhaps his own personal/professional commitments prevented him from doing such a long flyght to attend the event at the other side of the planet... but I agree somebody should have been sent... If not Iñaki, at least Infanta Pilar (who's also connected to sports organizations). The royal family in big enough to be able to send anybody, I guess.

Maybe because Spain is a soccer-country. Is basketball big in Spain as it is here in the US? Maybe that's why the Casa Real didn't think it was important to send someone. You're right that reminds me that Inaki was not in Greece, perhaps he was left with the kids who probably already started with school. It wasn't his fault because "The Powers That Be" (aka the gray-haired men) didn't send him, right?

Does Casa Real always have to send a representative to all sports competitions that Spain competes on? I'm just wondering why the people and the press are making such a big deal out of their absence. It's not the end of the world, and I heard they're going to meet the Kings and the Princes tomorrow.

Really this is an exercise of demagoguery on the part of the press.

Because the Royal Family is not in all the sports events, there have been competitions of hockey and waterpolo, where they have won world and the Royal Family has not been, because it is impossible that the world is crossed following all the Spanish sports.

In Spain the most important sport is the football with difference ... loo that happens is that the national team of football never gains anything. The Kings and the Princes travelled to the World Championship of Germany .... and when Spain was eliminated they criticized them for travelling for nothing.

The basketball is the second sport of ball of the most important.
The boys of basketball started playing very well in the games before the world championship, started playing and at winning, and the people started following them, and they came to the final...ultimately the whole country celebrates it. If they had lost nobody would remember the Royal Family, and if they had gone and lost they would criticize them for going.

The World Championship was in Japan, so it is a trip was very long and it was complicating the situation. But this one has been the first time that Spain has gained the world one of basketball, and the people were deceived by the topic, so partly the press has reason on having said that they have committed a mistake.

Sometimes the press is stupid and it does not report well, and later they cheat the people.

Evidently there are absurd critiques, because some of them, habitually, attack the Princes, and they say that they were not because they were of wedding. Thing that is not true, because the wedding was Saturday and the game on Sunday ... and with wedding or without it, they could never travel to Japan, because I do not believe that to leave a children with Down's Syndrome, for going to sees run game of basketball seem likely to nobody. The same thing for the Kings, who had on Monday an act with the ambassadors of Spain in the world, which only they assemble in Madrid once a year.

Different it is the case of the Infantas who were free of agenda and who could have done the effort. They were not in Greece because already they had returned on Friday (the Queen had an official act on Saturday). Besides, how I have said before, in case of the Dukes of Palm, they have been present at several competitions, to rest to the selection of handball, a minority sport in Spain. It does not seem to be very correct to be present at the competitions of the friends as official representatives and not those of other sportsmen more important and more followed by the population.

The King and Queen, along with the Prince and Princess of Asturias, received today the Spanish team of basketball in the Royal Palace of Madrid.

The King received Pau Gasol's t-shirt number 4, signed by all the players, and a golden ball, like the one they achieved in the World Championship of Japan.

http://www.elpais.es/articulo/deportes/Rey/Zapatero/campeones/mundo/elppordep/20060905elpepudep_1/Tes/

During the audience, moving moments were lived. The King, aware of the death of the coach's father, gave him a touching hug.
The meeting with Pau Gasol was also much awaited by the monarchs, who asked him about his foot injury. Don Juan Carlos' speech excused "for not to being able to travel to Japan to cheer the team, but his commitments could not be posponed". In addition, the King said that all the members of the family had watched all the games on TV and emphasized that the players "had fought like lions and that they have obtained a feat" for the Spanish sport.

Thank you lula for your insight about this new false problem related with Spanish Royal Family.

Spain is becoming, thank God, a medal conquerer in almost all sports activities. It looks like we need extra members at the Royal House (good time to give babies their own agenda;) - I can imagine Urdangarin boys jumping to Pau's back and celebrating crazingly:lol: ) that could leave their professional and personal activities to follow everyone around the world during an entire year.

I can imagine at least two occasions where the Kings were caught at a Tennis Match when a grandchild was arriving... They supported football in their highest level this year - let's not forget there were Royal Representation at The Champions and UEFA Cup and World Cup, and not to mention football - how many times did the King supported Allonso at Formula 1?!... Spanish Teams seem to have conquered a lot and celebrated it with the Royal Family...

But everything will never be enough when media are short of news:bang: ...

Look how funny it looks the King picking on Pau's cheeck .

Victory tastes so good! Congratulations Spain!

mtbcm :)

mtbcm, your posts always make me smile!
I love the way the SRF (especially the King) take a real interest in their country's great sports teams!!

http://www.hola.com/casasreales/2006/09/05/reyes-seleccion/

The King and Queen of Spain, accompanied by the Princes of Asturias, congratulated the 'Golden boys', during an audience that lasted nearly one hour and that finally took place in the Palacio de Oriente (inicially, it was predicted to take place at La Zarzuela). Don Juan Carlos, followed by Doña Sofía, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia, greeted each one of the players and members of the staff.

On the other hand, it was known today that the Spanish basketball team was added to the candidates to the Prince of Asturias Sports Award that will be announced tomorrow. Shortly before the beginning of the deliberations, some members of the jury have commented that 'the Golden boys' are clearly the favorites this year.

What a beautiful image, lula, thank you for sharing... What a magnificient room at the Palace... The less point is that the Queen and the Princess are looking back. But it is very imponent, good choice for the occasion...

A side note, why aren't they all using the same outfit?! When we are lucky enough  to have a team winning something when they meet the highest representatives of the State they all dress equally with rich taylored suits... but that's not important... Pau Gasol looks a nice guy:wub: ... well they all do...

Only now I noticed the warm hug the King gave to the Coach, what a nice gesture of him:wub: ...

And I really like to see Letizia hair like this, not fan of trousers' choice(you know why ;)), the make-up looks good too... The Queen just perfect!!

mtbcm:)

The Queen is back!
After her "original" end-of-summer attires, we are seeing the Queen we all love again!

Pau Gasol and Prince Felipe? Finally someone taller than the prince:).

Kings and Zapatero receive the champions of the world The Spanish selection, that Sunday proclaimed campeona of the world, was received yesterday by president of the Government and Reyes of Spain. MADRID AGENCIES After one it releases night by the festejos with the fans and with its families, the first shutdown was Moncloa, where Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero was the one in charge to give the welcome them and to receive to them. I feel pride and satisfaction of which you represent this country. It is the greater triumph of a sport selection in the history of Spain. And it cheers much to me and very particularly that is in basketball reason why all already you know, it indicated Zapatero, that in its youth he played basket. Between jokes, the president challenged to them to play a pachanguita, whereas Carlos Jiménez, like captain, did delivery to him of a t-shirt signed by all the components of the selection. After the visit in Moncloa, the red one undertook way to the Real Palace, where Carlos and Doña Sofía were received by Don Juan, in addition to the Princes de Asturias, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia. It was in the besamanos when the efusivos moments were lived. The King, knowledgeable of the death of the father of the selector, was fused in a touching hug with Pepu Hernandez. Like in the reception with Zapatero, Jiménez made delivery to the King of the t-shirt signed by all with number 4 of Pau Gasol, whereas Pepu gave a gilded ball to him, like retort of gold in the Mundobasket. Don Juan Carlos requested excuses by not to have been able to travel to Japan, but the obligations could not be posponed. In addition, the King kept awake that all the members of the Royal Family had seen by television the parties of the Mndial, and emphasized that they had fought like lions and that they have obtained a feat for the Spanish sport.
