Lula,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful post. It adds so much to my understanding of this couple and the work they do. I find it fascinating to know the differences between each of the monarchies and how each functions based on the needs of each country. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to "be a royal family" - just a different way. I really enjoy this couple and am amazed at the amount of time they devote to representing Spain. Your post helps me to put their work in context. Thanks again,
Emily

PRESS / Nor the Country has obtained that personages public speak openly on the heir of Corona
To speak of the Prince?...no, thanks
By Felipe Valdés
Digital Journalist
Monday, 5 of September 2005
"The past month of May in Ciudadela, a twenty of young people identified by certain simbología anarchist waits for in a corner the passage of the Prince Felipe while they shouted insults against him. When seeing them, gift Felipe the hand stopped and extended. First of them, surely surprised, it narrowed it almost very instinctively. The second, more prepared for its reaction, it rejected the greeting to the time that repeated eslóganes against the Prince and the Monarchy”.
With this anecdote, Antonio Sewer it has been giving beginning, this Monday to the first delivery of an extensive news article on the figure of Prince Felipe de Borbón in the occasion of the restoration of the sovereignty for already 30 years. It is a vision of The Country, on the present and el futuro of the monarchy.
Although Antonio Sewer it considers that the Spanish monarchy is not today "reason for debate of Spain, could say that not even it is frequent object of reflection"; however, it stresses that, for the accomplishment of this news article, many people "have rejected to participate", whereas others "have made it prote'ge's by the anonymity and all have measured their words until infrequent limits in their activity"
Sewer it emphasizes that, after 30 years since one became, being a boy, in the heir of Corona, gift Felipe de Borbón it finishes "fulfilling the first obligation of the highest representative of a monarchy: to prolong it ".
It stops Sewer "it is easier to speak on the paper of the Monarchy with the own Prince whom with any Spanish politician. Justified, perhaps, by the precariedad and controversy of its reinstitución after the death of Franc”.
The certain thing is that, after the fall of the Francoism, the King Juan Carlos it did not take in agreeing with the most radical left; nevertheless, the opposite rightist sectors to the monarchic restitution continue being, stops Sewer, a delicate subject ", much more of which it considers the own House Real".
It also emphasizes the excellent preparation of the heir, as well as its marriage with the journalist Letizia Ortiz that, according to it declares Jaume Matas in the news article, it shows "that complicity that reveals a shared world".
The news article really gives a detailed profile of the heir of the crown, but nothing new in horizon, only the capacity that has monarch the future "to be in tune with its citizens".

In the appointment, these he will be exposed by the principal challenges which they face in a conjuncture dominated by the globalization of the economy, which supposes a difficulty added for sectors very used to the subcontracting, as the metallurgical one, the mechanization or of the auxiliary industry of the car. Besides, the Basque businessmen, who have suffered from very special form the pressure of the terrorism and ETA's blackmail with the so called ' revolutionary tax ', him will transmit his impressions on the process of pacification.

I understand it's not very usual that members of the Royal Family go to the Basque Country, for security reasons; am I right?

Yes Elsa, the trips of the Royal Family to the Basque Country are complicated because they need of many measurements of safety, though it does not prevent it that the Kings or the Princes travel there, last year the Princes travelled to Vitoria and the Kings were there in some acts. The Princes also were in San Sebastian in their honeymoon. This day the Princes come to a meeting of Latin-American members of parliament, and I imagine that like that they take advantage of the trip. The bad thing, it is that besides the safety problems in this type of official acts always there are manifestations of radical of ETA's environment, which though they could be controlled by the police, they are very disagreeable.
On the other hand, Iñaki Urdangarín's family lives there, but their visits there are very counted by the safety problems, are in the habit of being the parents of Iñaki who go to Barcelona.
