'Out of touch' Spanish prince shakes hand of beggar - Telegraph
The homeless Romanian woman opened her hand on his approach in the hope of receiving some charity, but the confused prince instead grabbed it and gave her a firm handshake, before strolling off to greet well-wishers.

Read that earlier,to be fair the Prince was not to know she was looking for charity

Mmmm... He probably knew it, but what else could he do?
Not stopping in front of the woman: wrong. "See, we have a prince that doesn´t mind his people´s misery".
Stopping and give her some money: even worse! "See, the Prince is giving alms to a poor woman! That´s so prepotent".
Considering the options, I think it was much safer just greeting her

Sadly, I think they are, indeed.
But in this case, I think that either image of Felipe would have been quite unflattering for him. The one of him greeting the woman has been as well, but I think that nowadays, is more desirable that people sees him as a bit "dumb", rather than selfish or prepotent

Yes it seems that way but I guess they just take it on the chin and get on with the job!

Maybe his evil wife made him do it, just like she made Inaki steal the money.

To be honest I think the woman looks like any other well wisher and I'd have shaken her hand myself. Just because someone holds their hand out it cannot he assumed they're after money unless they specifically ask for any spare change. I wonder how many journalists from the Telegraph hand out change to people who ask on the street...not many I bet!

She appears to be lined up outside the door with other people in the line... If I were the Prince, I'd think she was part of the receiving line unless I heard differently. And with so much going on - cameras flashing, ten different things requiring your attention - I'm not sure a soft-spoken request for alms could be heard, or if heard, registered, until too late. You develop a handshaking autopilot, surely.

I haven't seen much criticism from the Spanish press. If the Telegraph is interested at some quotes from the websites, I'm sure there are plenty of them on their own royals on the internet.

This is why I sometimes hate this country´s media... I guess nobody had the idea of interviewing the woman... it was much easier calling her "beggar Romanian gipsy" without asking

Here is an interview with her, where she tells the story: she´s gipsy, true, but Spanish, and she isn´t a beggar (although she´s poor). She sells flowers at the door of the church since 34 years ago. She said she never asked the Prince for money, she only wanted to greet him and shake his hand.
Traductor de Google

I´ve read another article about her on a Spanish forum, but I can find the article. This phrase of the woman totally broke my heart:
"My family and I have been very bad. My young children have had problems at school. The other children insulted them saying his mother was a beggar. That was Romanian. The children did not want to go to school. We have been done a lot of damage, "he says through tears".
What a shame that in order to get a good sensationalist story, the press is allowed to do such a damage to an innocent family
EDIT: Second article found:

Felipe and crown prince Naruhito are the special ambassadors of "the "400 Years of Spanish-Japanese Exchange". They have been chosen to preside over the celebrations of the Year Japan-Spain to be held in both countries between 2013 and June 2014, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of bilateral relations between the two nations.
