The Commission of Evaluation of the Olympic International Committee (COI) came punctually this morning at 9.00 hours to the airport of Madrid-Barajas, where they were received by the mayor, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, and later they directed the Hotel Villa Magna of the Spanish capital, the one that they will examine during the next four days.

Though the days of work in strict sense will not begin up to tomorrow, today 13 delegates of the COI will take part in a cocktail of welcome in the own hotel, at which the Prince and Princess of Asturias will be present

Seems that the SRF are putting a lot of effort into this application after they lost out the last time when Queen Sofia even went to Singapore to give final support. Their pitch was pretty boring though compared to what London brought forward.

Will be difficult again, with London representing Europe in 2012 the games are bound to be awarded to another continent; Obama's home town of Chicago is certainly the hot favourite.

Maybe it makes sense to open a seperate thread for Madrid's 2016 bid?

Two more pics. Love the colour of Letizia's outfit. The shiny material doesn't compliment the cameras but the purple clutch is perfect this time.

As someone who lives near Chicago, I must say that I am partial to their bid for the 2016 games. However, I wish Spain the best of luck. I'm sure that Felipe and Letizia made a good impression on the group. Does anyone know if they both spoke, or just Felipe?
