In Spain the Royal Family does not realize the celebrations of the Monarchies of Europa's North. These celebrations are in the habit of being discreet, of private form and without big parties. For the present time there is no news with regard to which it will be done on the occasion of the birthday of the King.

ARTICLE: THE KING, PERSONAGE OF THE YEAR
Don Juan Carlos defends himself
The turbulences of the Spanish politics have affected the King in this year of 2007. Hurt by the burning of photos and the accusations of supporting the Government with its silence, only opposite to the assaults, the Monarch went out to defend personally the services given by the institution to make possible the rules of game of the democracy, after the resignation to the power with which he began to reign. Nobody knows when the succession will take place, but there is no doubt of his advice to don Felipe: to be abided by the Constitution.

Ambassador with wreath
Though it does not turn out to be evident, don Juan Carlos has spent abroad almost two of 32 years of his reign. That one is at least the approximate number that proves to multiply slightly more than hundred international trips that he takes realized for five or six days that each one is in the habit of lasting. The exterior politics is, in effect, probably the most emblematic activity of the Wreath, which, according to the article 56 of the Constitution, " assumes the highest representation of the State in the international relations, specially in the nations of its historical community ", that is to say, in Latin America.
The king has realized, nevertheless, his exterior activity in five continents. He has visited more than 160 countries and has managed to turn into the face of Spain into the world.

The King? Very well, thank you
Juan Carlos Brief: it was the hackneyed joke in circles of the democratic oposition (and also, curiously, in nucleuse ultra of the regime) in the final years of the Franco's regime. More than thirty years later, the king Juan Carlos, far from the predicted fleetingness, is the public figure best valued and more respected by the Spanish. A wide personal credit could be gained soon, managed to consolidate it and to extend it, and, on having done it, extended it to the own institution that takes on bodily form. It has not been the monarchic institution the one that has awarded legitimacy to the King, but the King who has provided with credit and social legitimacy to the Wreath.

Support of the big parties, diversity in the nationalism
The function of the King or of the Monarchy aligns, on the one hand, both big national parties of Spain, PSOE and PP, which they add both 89 % of the deputies of the Congress, and the minority parties, for other one.

Too opaque accounts
The headquarters of the State are financed by several budget items
The Royal Household agreed in 1978 on the quantities that the royal family would declare to Estate as income for IRPF
In Spain, all the royal properties went on to National wealth, and the same keynote follows now
Cuentas demasiado opacas · ELPAÍS.com
The ferreous control of the King
Don Juan Carlos has been busy always with monitoring personally the image of the Wreath and with linking the Monarchy to the scrupulous fulfillment of the Constitution
Every time it is more complicated to establish the balance between the necessary popularity and the excessive exhibition
The King entrusted to a friend a comparison on activities and cost of other monarchies and remained very satisfied
The fact that the only House exists, for the King and the Prince, avoids different criteria and chiefs who compete between them

The resistance of the Wreath
La resistencia de la Corona · ELPAÍS.com
The set already is not enough
The King and his descendants are forced to manage their image in a world increasingly media and inquisitively by their private and labour activities
The arrival of new figures and the own evolution of the society have complicated the situation
The separation of the infanta Elena de Jaime de Marichalar has supposed another test for the Monarchy
Once a month, the King presides in the palace of the Zarzuela at a meeting like board of directors of the family to determine the official agenda and the activities to expire. The meeting is celebrated in a room near the office of the King. Don Juan Carlos and dona Sofía attend it; the princes of Asturias; dona Elena; dona Cristina; the husband of this one, Iñaki Urdangarín, and until two months ago Jaime de Marichalar. In these meetings of work, Alberto Aza (chief of the House of the King) and Ricardo Díez Hochtleiner (secretary general) expose the invitations that have received or do offers of acts or hearings. Of there there arises a distribution of tasks which last word belongs to the King. On having finished 2007, the royal family will have visited 17 autonomous communities and both autonomous cities (Ceuta and Melilla), close to a whole of 35 provinces. The Kings will have crossed 53.461 kilometres in travel so much in Spain like abroad. And they will have granted 221 hearings.
