Then on Saturday, the King and Queen will give the prize to the winner of this edition, Sánchez Ferlosio, during the ceremony that will take place in Alcalá de Henares, and, in the afternoon, they will travel to Rome, in order to attend the proclamation of Pope Benedict XVI.

From Elmundo:

Rafael Sanchez Ferlosio has received the Cervantes Prize 2004 from the hands of the King, at the University of Alcala de Henares (Madrid). The author, who does not consider himself a "literate, but a commentator", is considered the best Cervantin specialist of all the XX century, for his great lexical richness, his precision and meticulousness, in addition to an implacable intellectual.

Don Juan Carlos has defined today the "great author" Rafael Sanchez Ferlosio, as a "master of the word and an alchemist of the language" with his outstanding "writing of classic purity and perfection". Don Juan Carlos stated that Sanchez Ferlosio "has cultivated the linguistic investigation and the experimentation of new narrative resources".

Yes I thought that was the rule. Though the Canadian Governor General also wore white, ofcourse she wore a black skirt.
