Reina Sofía will inaugurate today the Park Jeweler of Cordoba

Does anyone know who the woman (in the navy or black outfit) is in the picture above standing next Her Majesty? I have seen her in several photographs and wonder what her relation is to Queen Sofia. Is she a lady in waiting or something of that nature?

Not at all a Lady in Waiting. She's the Minister of Culture.

Thank you very much for the pictures Sue! The Queen does looks fabulous wearing red, it is a perfect summer outfit. Her accessories aer very interesting as well.

Yes, the woman is the Minister of Culture and I believe her last name is Calvo. She accompanies various members of the royal family on quite a few of their engagements. Her hair has been shorter until quite recently which is why perhaps you didn't recognize her.

Reina Doña Sofía today gave in the Real Palace of Madrid the Prizes of the Foundation of the Red Cross for the Attention of Toxicomani'as (CREFAT), that has received initiatives of Alava, the Canary Islands, Leon, Asturias and Argentina. The minister of Health, Elena Salgado, alerted in the act on the loss of social conscience with respect to this problem, since while in 1995 half of the population considered that it was very important, now to only she thinks the 30 percent it.

I saw today that the queen went to a Christening to a baby girl called Sofia and she was the goodmother.
