I wonder if the Queen will arrive back early considering the accident of King Juan Carlos?

I'm expecting to see her back, An Ard Ri. This has been another unfortunate health setback for Juan Carlos.

And let's not forget Sofia. I'm sure that she can do without all the added worry and strain.

Exactly what I was thinking Doña Breffney

El Pais is a serious paper, if they say he was hunting elephants there is a good chance it will be true. Of course the palace wont confirm.

(DISGRACEFUL PICUTRE)

Only some time ago this kind of media wouldnt have mentioned such derogatory information about the King, giving a detailed account of the circumstances of the injury. Hunting elephants in Africa while Spain is suffering from the biggest cost cutting in their history will not win the royal family any credit from the public.
The SRF has fallen out of luck when trying to cover up some unappealing details, the media is not prepared any longer to keep quiet purely out of respect (not that hunting elephants deserves respect anyway).

Regarding Sofia, I guess if she cares, she will care publicly. Other than that, there are obviously other women who look after JC in the hospital (according to Pilar Eyre the last time JC was in hospital somebody else got into the elevator just in time before Sofia arrived).

Corinna Sayn Wittgenstein is rumoured to be one of JC's girlfriends (apparently he has been active in various camps). She is also supposed to be the woman in the elevator (see above). Corinna is a divorcee and has accompagnied JC on various official trips in the past, as part of his or the business delegation. The media has not mentioned her so far (yes, this is changing these days) but "unofficial gossip" links her to JC for many years.

Spaniards are outraged that the king was on an expensive hunting trip in Africa while his country is in the grip of a recession, with a record 4.75 million unemployed.

I worry for the future of the Spanish Monarchy. Given their recent difficulties, this was a huge mistake on Juan Carlos's part.

Probably that he could get away with it.

Am very, very disappointed with JC. I abhor hunting and shooting of any kind.

I can't express (not civilly, anyway) just how angry those pictures make me.
The sight of the poor defenceless elephant lying dead and people next to it smiling...
I don't care who's conducting the killings - a King or a plumber, or whether it's legal: it's just wrong.

How right you are........he always has and he will never change at this age. I guess committing adultry is not part of his personal religion restriction. I have always felt sorry for the Queen in this respect. Such a good woman.

Plus article stated that his black eye was do to being "hit by a doornob"! In my mind, I would LOVE to have seen him get the black eye from his wife hitting him with a thrown asktray!

The public relations people who work for the SRF must be pulling their hair out. It'll take some pretty epic spinning to minimise the damage that all these mis-steps are causing.

I was going to say they seem intent on shooting themselves in the foot - but figured that would be the wrong analogy this week of all weeks.
