According to a published report in La Vanguardia newspaper, Queen Sofia will be traveling to Southeast Asian countries hit by the tsunami at the end of February. In addition to "moral support" she will be "delivering" another round of Spanish humanitarian assistance. She will also meet with Spanish volunteers (I wonder if she'll see Letizia's sister who is in southeast asia with the red cross?)

Thank you, Lucys, for the article!

From Elmundo:

The Kings of Spain offered last night at El Pardo a supper to the members of the Olympic Committee's (IOC) Evaluation Commission, who are visiting Madrid. Queen Sofía's son-in-law, Iñaki Urdangarín, was very affectionate with his mother-in-law, during the banquet.

King Juan Carlos reminded in his speech that several members of the Spanish Royal Family, including himself, have already participated in past Olimpic Games. Also the Prime Minister Zapatero asserted that the project Madrid 2012 unifies Spain in such a way that «all the Spanish people feel as citizens of Madrid».

Love the way she goes down to eyelevel with the toddlers and how she strokes their cheeks,

Is this a special kindergarten, in other words one highly subsidised for parents who both have to work for economic reasons? can not imagine her opening one for the children of yuppies.

As Anna has posted, it's a kindergarten conceived for the Royal Soldiers' children (la guardería de la Guardia Real).

I had posted a published story that the Queen would be visiting the tsunami countries. The sources had it wrong, next week she travels, but to Northern Africa. She will visit Spanish NGO workers.

http://www.abc.es/abc/pg050217/prensa/noticias/Nacional/Nacional/200502/17/NAC-NAC-031.asp

For those who can not read Spanish:

Queen Sofia will travel to Africa on Monday, where she will visit different cooperation projects in Algeria, Mauritania and Morocco. The trip will begin next Monday in Algeria and will end Friday 25th, in the Moroccan city of Tetuán, capital of the old Spanish protectorate. On that visit, the Queen will be accompanied by Leire Pajín, Secretary of State for International Cooperation.

One more of the Queen at the concert, from Casa Real
