For those who can not read Spanish:

Queen Sofia will travel to Africa on Monday, where she will visit different cooperation projects in Algeria, Mauritania and Morocco. The trip will begin next Monday in Algeria and will end Friday 25th, in the Moroccan city of Tetuán, capital of the old Spanish protectorate. On that visit, the Queen will be accompanied by Leire Pajín, Secretary of State for International Cooperation.

Q
I've just started reading it, in spanish, which is very hard, but i'm trying... so far it's a good book, in a review i read somewhere it said that the book isn't always that positive about JC.. There are not that many books about him, which are translated in english..I also have a sort of photoalbum... with photo's for each year of his life, telling his life story.. It is only in spanish though... It's by Javier Tusell, it's called fotobiografia de Juan Carlos 1 Una vida en imagenes...

I hope this helps you a bit...:)

Thanks lucys for the pictures; they're much appreciated.

Is Sofia's trip to Northern Africa part of an official trip in relation to her role as Queen or is it part of her Queen Sofia Foundation? The Queen always seems so happy and attentive on such trips, and I love and appreciate how she really makes an attempt to learn and experience the culture of the country she is visiting, by trying their local delicacies as well as dressing in their native clothes, rather than simply touring such tribes or areas in her tailored and designer suits and expensive jewellery. She really makes an effort which sets her apart.

(Africa seems to be a very popular royal place this week with Sofia, Mathilde and Maxima all there!)

According to Casa Real, it is an official trip. This is what they say:

Quote:
Her Majesty the Queen, that travels accompanied by the secretary of International Cooperartion, Leire Pajín, intends to get to know at first-hand the work of the Spanish colaborators and to support the projects in subjects like education, health, environment and the resistant tourism.

There they will visit the Technical Office for Cooperation of the AECI in Nuakchott, as well as different projects co-financed by ONGD: Center of Formation of Women COVIDE, Marhaba-Mon 3 and Habitáfrica CEAR. During the following day, they will visit the millenarian city of Walata that is counting with an important financing of the AECI, for the rehabilitation of houses, museums and archives of manuscripts. To finalize this visit to Mauritania, they will visit the Hospital and the Center of Municipal Formation in Nuadibú, together with the Government authorities of the Canary Islands, which co-finance these projects. There will also be an occasion to take acknowledge of the activities developed by other ONGD, by means of an exhibition that will show the projects of marine security, health, alphabetization, preservation of the seal monk, etc.

On Friday, they will go to Morocco. In Tetuán, Doña Sofia it will visit the Day-care center Mulay Rachid, managed by the League for Protection of Childhood, as well as the Center of Technological Residual Water Transference, and the Hanan Center for Educational Disabilities (where FUNCOE, Save the Children and CODESPA participate), in addition to the AECI.
